Non Nurse Threads

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I have noticed a few threads from non nurses who post threads asking for our opinions about the care they or thier family members received in the hospital. They usually want to know if everything was appropriate. If they are asking, then something probably was wrong. Sometimes we find out later in the thread that they are getting or already have a lawyer or a case pending. Is it really such a good idea for us to answer these type of posts? This BB is for nurses, us. Not for ANYONE ELSE, IMO.

Oh, come on, folks, you can spot a non-nurse a mile away, even a non-nurse with some technical background. One "nurse" here was PM'ing me with specifics about where I'd worked before....big duhhhh there....

Beware questions that seem to be calling for personal info. Cyberstalkers exist everywhere. See http://www.cyberabgels.com for some tips on how to keep 'em away from you.

Requiring nursing credentials to post is simply going to be too much trouble for Brian, and for people who maybe got their license in a different country--2 of them immediately spring to mind on this board.

KarafromPhilly,

I wouldn't be too blaze-fare about this. Simply put, the laws have not caught up to internet and BBs, therefore, there are none to protect what we say. There is no guarantee of anonymity online. Usernames, etc can be very easily traced to IP addresses, and even if they are dynamic, with the help of the ISP, one can find a user. Not to mention, alot of users here post their pictures. Hard to argue who's who there.

I am not trying to stir up paranoia, but I am trying to point out the realism here.

Everyone use their own best judgement and comfort level; but keep in mind, everything in print and everything on the internet, so far, is fair game to anyone who gets a hold of it.

Gosh, I come here to hopefully see and understand the nurses I work with, if I have made anyone feel that I don't belong here, please, please tell me!!

Remember I'm only a Ward CLerk, maybe I don't belong here.

But I could not find anyother place where some of my questions and concerns where dicussed.

Again I am sorry if I made any uncomfortable! Please answer on the board,

Thanks

Don't worry, Cinny, I'm sure you know as a Ward Clerk, being around nurses, we know how to spot the phonies. We didn't mean that you couldn't come and increase your knowledge base; we just wanna blow off steam and lurkers who aren't nurses usually just don't get it.

Like I said previously, asking a nursing type question is one thing, and it's OK. Fishing around for personal info, workplace specifics, or pt. details is quite something else again and won't be tolerated.

After all, if we have to be so careful that we can't have open discussions, what the heck is the point?

Thanks, sleepyeyes, I guess I feel somewhat better about coming here. Sometimes when you work with the same people all the time it is so easy to forget and think about what they have to do and coming here to visit, gives me the jolt I need somedays to look at the "whole picture" and not be upset, because many times the "growl" is not personally for me. I only want to go to work and do a good job and be helpful, I know nursing is not easy, no matter what the title. And I feel that I work with a good bunch!( We all have our moments!!) Again thanks, but as I said before if I make anyone at all feel uncomfortable, I will try not to visit.

What has you confused Stephany?

It's a bit much to ask this site to be so scutinized. I regularly visit Studentdoc.com for their perspective. I'd be insulted if I was banned .

Provides us with a perfect opportunity to TEACH lay people just what it is that nursing actually do for a living. Geesh, not answering a call bell within 5 minutes, WHAT? are we in competition with that pizza place that hands out free pizzas if the delivery takes longer than expected!!! The public hasn't got a clue what we do and they should!

Brandy, just wanted to take the opportunity to congratulate you on getting that license!

The other day I read a post from a bright young 13 year old who has a dream of becoming a RN someday. This girl was welcomed here and received some great advice.

It made me feel good to hear this young ones refreshing enthusiasm. If we limit this BB to nurses we miss out on things like this.

Awwwwwww (sniff, sniff)That was beautiful. I agree. We just need to answer the ones we want and ignore the ones we don't like, and if they get too iritating, we can gang up on them. Hahahahahahahahahaah

Yeah, and we'll kick their cyberpatooties!!!
