Non Nurse Threads

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I have noticed a few threads from non nurses who post threads asking for our opinions about the care they or thier family members received in the hospital. They usually want to know if everything was appropriate. If they are asking, then something probably was wrong. Sometimes we find out later in the thread that they are getting or already have a lawyer or a case pending. Is it really such a good idea for us to answer these type of posts? This BB is for nurses, us. Not for ANYONE ELSE, IMO.

Yes Renee. That is their new mission. They have their lurkers. We have ours.

They are personally out to get us for having thoughts and opinions once we get out of our scrubs. They must have thought that we have our batteries removed and our existance ceases until our next shift

"awesome idea susy, considering they're all lurking over here now with the intention of copying and pasting our statements and sending them to each of our bon's."

i hope they are copying and pasting jt's posts!

a permission slip for students to come to this board?

are we maybe taking ourselves a little too seriously?

I ignore those threads or direct them to write their complaints out to the hospital board. I think it is not a good idea to mess around w/threads like that. We just don' tknow the whole situation and anything we say can be used against us one way or the other.

:chuckle for real! it's cool not to want to get invaded, but I think in other ways to limit it would suck too...what about the people that come here to get a picture of what nursing is like and whether they want to do it?

Gee... I never thought about all the possible problems that could arise from these nursing sites. I have found this particular forum to be very informative. I have to admit - I'm only a pre-nursing student as of now. My intention is to enroll in nursing school but that's at least three semesters away. It's sad that it's gotten to the point of needing to use such measures to ensure safety.

:chuckle :roll :chuckle Now now...it won't hurt a bit, thisnurse. :rotfl: Just teasing with you because NONE of this is truly fun or funny when we have to go to the lengths of restricting membership just to keep a decent BB that Brian has worked so hard to put together. Allnurses is without a doubt the BEST place to belong for nurses and nursing students, and it's a shame that there are bad apples in the mix trying to destroy Brian's "Brain Child". Even without our suggestions, I don't think for one minute that Brian Short - Administrator - is going to let anything destroy his work here. Right Brian? :)

They can visit and view posts, but to be able TO post should require either a temp license, a license, or student ID card.

It could keep the harrassment and trolling down.

I for one feel entirely uncomfortable here lately......my two best buds are in the Nursing Witness Protection Program and I am too scared to post my picture......

The laws simply have not caught up with technology. The thing that my husband always said is the web is the Wild, Wild West still. Anything and everything can go on on the web so we must act and speak cautiously. So far there aren't any laws to protect us on the internet. Why do you think I haven't posted much, especially related to nursing issues?:o

Actually, as one who suffered through 2 1/2 years of law school, I wouldn't be too concerned with replying to non-nurse lurkers. Rules of evidence are actually very strict, and what we type on this board would be considered hearsay and inadmissible. Besides, what lawyer in their right mind would try to build a case on what an anonymous person said online? I mean, how do THEY know that that person is actually a nurse? ("Your honor, NrsHappyC said...")

That said, it's nice to see nurses who make time and expend energy to give thoughtful, informative replies to members of the public who wander in with questions. Gives me a warm happy feeling. :nurse:
