No Scott Toilet Paper?

Why is my favorite TP no longer available? What is happening with our distribution network? Why no Scott?

What other shortages are you all encountering?

I was at the local grocery store just yesterday and Thank God I didn't need to buy TP or parer towels. Oh sure, they had some on the shelves but oh my Lord were they expensive! The price more than doubled from what I paid not too long ago.

Plus the price of meat, through the roof! A pound of hamburger that used to cost $3.19/lb is now $5.99/lb if you are lucky. How on earth are people on limited incomes feeding their families with these prices?

When I was a kid we ate meat once a month, right after my dad’s payday. For years thought that was the norm.

I got two pkgs of the Kroger brand TP, the second one after weeks of empty shelves. Not difficult to compare and notice that the size of the rolls decreased in the interim. Yup, taking advantage of the situation.

Meat and chicken. Limited to 1 or 2 packs at the local grocery stores and the price is sky high. I went to Sam's Club and stocked up! The freezer's full and I'm satisfied for now. My children eat like goats. I also stocked up on pasta, beans, rice, sugar, flour, and water.

There are several stores in my area price gouging. ?

People who have and maintain a stand alone freezer are ahead, in this portion of the poorly managed pandemic, in my view. One of the benefits of my life style is maintenance of a seasons long supply of animal proteins, garden harvest and wild foraging (berries, mushrooms, Labrador Tea, etc)...or as close as we can come to it. We pick up dairy products and other store items every couple weeks.

The outbreaks in the meat industry are taking a toll.

I agree, TMB

I was way ahead in the beginning of the pandemic then severe storms knocked out power for almost 2 weeks. No generator and everyone in close proximity had no power either. I lost everything. Taught me a lesson. I am slowly replacing things in the freezer (nothing like before) AND a new generator.

Rising prices can almost be understood, if NOT considered acceptable. But if REAL price gouging is suspected, I believe it can be reported to authorities.

I'm thinking Consumer Affairs or Attorney General's Office.

It's admixing with beans, rice, pasta, canned veggies, etc to stretch the protein.

And even those prices are increasing where items are avail.

We also learned that the hard way some years back. I have the advantage of a generator and a very cold Alaska stream running at the back of my property. Keeping things cold, even in Summer is not difficult right here. There is no permafrost on my property but there is a permafrost research station not far from me.

We get some of our freezer meat locally, from neighbors...chickens, duck, rabbit. When we add in moose, salmon, and the occasional other meat it is pretty rounded.

One thing is very clear to us however. We consume only a small portion of the meat protein per day than we used to. It's interesting really.

Every time I go to the store I'm buying a few things extra to stockpile. I will look and see what is on sale. I bought a tub of lard, dried beans, canned chili, beer and wine.

I have a freezer full of lamb. I have three Lambs out in the pasture who will get slaughtered in August. I have flour and yeast, sugar, dehydrated soups.

My Health standards are lower for these Foods. It's better if they are filled with preservatives, which I normally avoid.

During my time at home I have totally reorganized and made shelf space available in my garage, and have organized my barn / shop. I have become very very frugal. I will be working again soon, I've been living off my earnings from a couple of covid-19 contracts.

I also have a stash of chocolate bars.

Yep. Chocolate, nuts, dried fruit. I'm currently addicted to toasted coconut cookie thins from Costco.

My pantry also includes the necessities of margaritas and bloody Marys as well as non alcoholic fun stuff. Retirement is great.

Keep your lard in a cool dark place and check it for rancidity at least every 3 months. Also salted butter is shelf stable for 3 months when kept in the same manner.

NurseBlaq - I don't quite get the inference re 'kids eat like goats'. I'm guessing they have voracious appetites and eat just about anything?

Never heard it before.
