This is a follow-up to the "will the nursing shortage ever end?" post. If there's a glut of new grads and unemployed nurses in your area, post your location. I'll start: Bay Area/NorCal - no jobs here, kids!
It isn't only eastern NC that are hiring new and/or experienced nurses but they are also hiring nurses throughout the entire state. NC consist of the mountains, flat lands, and coast and we need nurses in all of these areas. If you want to move to the mountains, you can find a nursing job around asheville, if you want to live in the flat lands you could find a nursing job around charlotte, winston-salem, greensboro, raleigh, fayetteville, if you want to live in the coast/beach you could find a nursing job around elizabeth city, wilmington, new bern. there are several va hospitals (asheville, durham, charlotte, fayetteville) & major teaching/research hospitals (duke, unc, wake forest, east carolina)..A lot of people move to NC from up north or down south, especially from Florida whether it may be in the mountains or the coast..so there is definately a need of them!!
Connecticut here...If you look at the hospitals web sites you would think we need a ton of nurses...Those are just open positions that are not being filled....If you have experience in acute care you can work in the hospitals here....If your a new grad you will be working in sub-acute or LTC for a while to start...There are some jobs but not many on the eastern side of the state....
My experience in Indianapolis, IN as a new grad has been a positive one. Since passing the Nclex in January, I had three interviews and three job offers. Two of the three were offers from the two biggest hospital systems in Indianapolis. I was hired onto my unit with about 10 new grads and several have started after me. All of my new grad friends have found jobs in hospitals as well.
Move to Indianapolis! It's not too bad of a city! :)

Wait, are you a student, or a licensed RN?!

And you know this how????
are you a nurse? can you back any of these statements up? Just because there are several major teaching hospitals and Va's doesn't mean they are actively hiring...we all know where Duke etc are located, but I have friends located there who have said they haven't hired for some time...
Denver. I've been looking to change career paths and get out of hospital nursing. I've been looking actively since the beginning of May. I've sent out approximately 100 resumes/applications in response to job postings. I've gotten 4 interviews, and no job offers.
I'm an experienced nurse, intelligent and well-spoken, and I clean up nicely.
Five years ago I have no doubt that I could have had three job offers inside a week.

Bingo...that's what they do....so don't base advertised positions on whether or not there are actual jobs available!

Northern Vermont. There aren't too many nursing programs around. The 4 local hospitals (5 if you look across the lake) are generally looking for per diem nurses. One will hire new grad nurses as LNAs. Another uses a lot of travelers. Another has an active new grad program, but constantly advertises for ER nurses (it's a small town with a big drug problem).
The prisons, state psych hospital, home health, and SNFs are hiring, but all of them want experience.
