No Chemistry Needed?

Published

Hi, Everyone:

I noticed by looking through my school's nursing curriculum that Chemistry is not listed anywhere as a required course. Does that seem strange to anyone? You need A&P 1&2, and Microbiology. The school has at least a 95% first time pass rate of the NCLEX for several years running, so I don't even know if this is an issue. Do you think that you need Chemistry or do you think that you will get everything you need with the other 2 sciences?

It is often a prerequisite, but not always. The actual amount of chem that you use in nursing (that isn't covered in the other sciences) is pretty minimal.

My school is just like yours--micro and A&P I and II--no chemistry. I can't say it upsets me. LOL!

If I were you I'd take it as a gift (unless you love chem, of course).

Good luck.

The CC I'm doing my prereqs at doesn't require Chemistry however, there's a prereq for A&P for chemistry, so we need to take it either way :)

Peace,

My school doesn't require chemistry either. I was worried about it, but reading this makes me feel more comfortable with it.

It's not required at my school either. For pre-reqs you can pick either Chemistry, Advanced Human Physiology, or Physics.

It may not be required, however, do look closely at all pre requisites or co requistes for the other classes. At my school Chemistry was not required for the Nursing program, it was however, required pre req for microbiology. They have since changed that too and it's no longer required at all, however I am so glad I took it!

My schools program does not not have Chemistry for it's actual degree but you can not get in to the program without at least a HS chem class. So before I could even apply for the program I had to take a chem class.

at my school it was a co-prerequisite meaning, you couldn't take micro or a&p without having either high school level or chem with a pass rate of C or better OR taking it as a class in college. either is acceptable. so you may want to make sure its not a co--prereq. at any rate, if you don't cool. less for you to have to do. best wishes!!

Chemistry is not in our progam at all, however to pursue further degrees it will be needed so I started easy with an intro to chem course and after I finish the program I'll take Chemistry along with a few others I'll need

I think that I may just "vluntarily" take a chemistry class just to be on the safe side.;)

Chemistry is not a pre-req for my school either but it is STRONGLY recommended for consideration into the program so needless to say I'm taking Chemistry for Heath Occupations this coming semester. Good Luck!
