Night Shift Relationship Woes

Published

So how do you deal with significant others on opposite shifts? I feel like my boyfriend doesn't get that I need my sleep. That he doesn't get my job isn't some mindless job that I push buttons.

we had a major fight two months ago when I was forced to sleep in our camper because he had his family coming over. Keep in mind I opted to pick up basically close to 200 hours of overtime in several weeks to help us get some extra cash so I was already stressed. He told his brother in law it's okay to mow the lawn so I was woken up. I wouldn't have been pissed if it was a neighbor but I was pissed at my boyfriend. He said I was rude and should apologize. I refused.

Now he offered to pay for a hotel room this weekend but then he changed his tune to they were only doing work Saturday (a day I didn't work). yesterday he springs it on me they were doing work all weekend including yesterday and tomorrow. He didn't work yesterday till after I left. I'm pissed about this. He knows I work Sunday. He claims he told me and he did. But then he changed it to just saturday. They didn't work friday till after I left because I threw a fit.

Am I being selfish in wanting to sleep well before working in an ER? That I may kill someone if I'm tired. I can have 5 or more patients with little or no ancillary staff. I could be triaging that night. He makes it sound like I am very selfish in my requests. Yes they are doing us a favor but it isn't like I am doing a job where I push buttons or stock shelves

I hope, with my whole heart, that this is a joke.

Oh, brother.

Sounds like my FIL who requires that his wife go to bed with him regardless of whether SHE is tired or not because he is unable to sleep without her there. Yeah, my hubs would suspiciously die in his sleep in year one.

I seriously doubt you are "the" man. I'm going to allow you to get a clue.

Put down your club, let go of her hair, and go back into your cave. The rest of us live in the 21st century.

The Nobel Prize in Physics was surely awarded to the wrong folks this year. It should have been awarded to the.. ta-da... inventor of The Time-travel Machine ;)

Stone Age.. meet.. 2015 :wideyed:

Edit: While I was furrowing my brow trying to decide which emoticon was best suited (it's hard work ;)) it seems that Horseshoe made a similar association :)

Guys, he our current refugee from the Visa Journey forums. He is one of those sad He-Men, who goes overseas and finds a wife because North American and European women aren't subservient enough and aren't willing to work 16 hour days to support his dream.

If you've been around the board long enough, you will remember RedRanger and a few other princes from Visa Journey who set themselves up as experts on nursing, exam taking, and nursing schools in Cebu and Manilla.

I like to think that some nurse is going to take him to the cleaners after she's got her green card and moved her family over at his expense or better yet, have him build her dream home back in her home land in her name, where, he can't own property.

After she gets all that, I'd like her to dump his loser behind and find a REAL man.

Op, have not read all of the replies, but.....if he is your boyfriend, do NOT make him your husband until he grows up considerably.

On the passive/aggressive things I wish I would do front, (that is meant to be sarcastic) 2 can play at that game, wake his butt up at 2:30 am on your night off and tell him to pack his poop and go elsewhere. Vaccum the rug. Play some rave/80's and/or other music cause it is your DAY OFF!!! Watch the DVR'ed Jerry Springer episodes, and chant along with JERRY. JERRY.....

In all seriousness, Black out curtains and ear plugs. A fan/ac unit to keep the noise at bay. Shut the door (after asking if there is anything he needs from the room.)

But I did see that you will have your medic pager soon.....You should get a full on scanner. Sit, back, pop popcorn and enjoy.....:woot:
