New RN, what kind of makeup can I use to cover a tattoo?

Published

I have several tattoos that I obtained before becoming a medical worker years ago . I recently graduated school and passed nclex, got a job and will start in 2 wks as a new RN. I wore long sleeves in clinicals , but its hot and i have a chest piece that sticls up a little. Does anyone have experience with Stage or theater makeup or any make up that will work thats water/sweat proof? Any Positive tips would help. Thank you.

I only have one arm 1/4 . so I only would want to cover the 1/4 and like the top 1/2 inch of my chest to neck. im just sick of wearing long sleeves. The Hr lady told me yesturday that the hosp is a ''stickler'' for covering tattoos. my tats are not offensive at all but that doesnt matter. I have googled what kind of makeup , but I was just looking for nurses with real exp in using the makeup not paid testimonies from companies.

Id think that I would just wear long sleeves. Maybe you can find a really thin fabric thats long sleeved so you wouldn't get so hot. The makeup thing just seems like so much trouble, especially when washing hands/wrists act

Kat Von D has a line of makeup at Sephora...some of it is made specifically to cover tattoos. I know some girls in my class who use it and I would never know they had tattoos if I didn't see them on class days! They always talk about how they love it. Seems to work great.

Get them removed if they worry you so much.

Unfortunately you are stuck with wearing long sleeves...you can search around and try to get the thinnest material possible, maybe underarmour? make-up is gonna be a total pain in the behind, you will have to apply it and/or touch it up every day and possibly throught the day on a long shift, just think of how many times your arms will rub against a patient, a bed, etc. And you will be leaving smudges of make-up on bed linens and pt gowns.

Wear a dickey. Would be a lot easier than futzing with makeup

...and risk looking like this!

My boyfriend has to cover his tattoos, and he wears long-sleeved underarmour heat gear. It actually keeps him cooler. They also make flesh colored sleeves that you can wear just on that arm to cover tattoos, and maybe a bandaid (of whatever size) on your chest? This is similar to the sleeve that he has, but he's found that the underarmour's a lot more comfortable: Ink Armor Full Sleeve Temporary Tattoo Cover Up at Tat2x.com

Do you even have to cover them up? Maybe your facility allows them? When we registered prior to having our last baby, the RN that did it had something spelled out in a tattoo on her knuckles. It was VERY off-putting, but lots of people said she was a wonderful nurse. So clearly that hospital didn't have a problem with visible tats =)

OP posted earlier that the facility was pretty strict about it. But I can't imagine a way to have anything on the knuckles covered up without just wearing gloves.. all day.. Makeup wouldn't hold up to the washing.
