New LPN students to start soon !! Come share your experiences :)

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Published

I am starting in September I figured it would be nice to start a thread where all of us new students could come and and share our experiences/help eachother out as we are on our way to be nurses :)

I cannot believe how impatient I have become since receiving my congrats letter in the mail. Orientation is only April 14th, yet is seems like it might as well be another three months. While class is only May 4th, but that's likes 3 years away from now. I think I am going to spend this week trying to think of anything else but nursing school. How is everyone else coping?

Fwardlaw - it's gonna be here before you know it!!

I start Wednesday, so I've been trying to get everything together so I'm as prepared as I can be. I only have like 3 more things I want to pick up before class starts, so my goal is to do that today. I read the first chapter of each of my books, to try to get a head start and see how each book is laid out. Tomorrow and Tuesday I plan on just relaxing and picking up any last minute things that I think of.

My logic is the more prepared I am, the less stressed/nervous I am. (though, I'm still really nervous haha)

The last of my text books have arrived... they barely fit into my backpack! I may need a another bag to carry notebooks, my lunch ect... I can't wait to start!

RCH85 good idea to read ahead... the big text has some good recommedations

ie: arrive early, sit up front. I hope I can bring my coffee to class, otherwise I'll be a zombie. I did find some nice white scrubs that are 60% cotton.

Just have some nervous energy.

JerseyN - I'm having the same issue with my books, are you bringing the study guides to class too? I can't imagine needing them for class, but am debating on if I should bring them just in case. Just 1 more day - Can't wait!

I was planning on bringing them... although, like you said I don't see how we will use them. I have a rolling backpack and a messenger bag. I plan on arriving early. It's too bad we don't have lockers. It will be cumbersome carrying them all in daily.. but I guess we'll get used to it.. (hopefully the parking lot is close to class LOL)

I think they mentioned there will be about 55 students. I plan on arriving early.

Hopefully, we'll meet some fellow students that would be interested in a study group. Would you be interested?

Yes, just one more day to start!

I plan on arriving too. I know what building we are in, but have no idea where the classroom is, so I'm giving myself extra time to find it. I am definitely interested in a study group and I'm sure others will be interested too.

I do love the fact that we have off all next week. I really just want to get my hands on the class syllabus' and get a study plan in action.

WHEW! first day ended... they passed out 9 books and ALMOST everything fits in my bag...i will have to carry my lunch bag separately. I have to say, it was so great that the whole nursing program came down to the our class and congratulated everyone who made it, each of the instructors gave us their cell phone numbers including the DON,and said to call and that no question was too small. that was incredibly encouraging!

I got fitted for scrubs, i'm waiting for clinicals four weeks from now!

We already have a test next week on A &P and I already read some chapters and took notes. Also, i plan on bringing my study guide because i noticed that some of the activities, or questions involve a group of students.

I'm nervous and excited. I got an email from a friend telling me (yet again) that LPN's are being phased out and there's a possibility that I'm wasting my money. But after the first day, i'm SOOO PUMPED for this change!

Good luck to those whose first day is yet to begin! can't wait to read about it!

Hi nccatim,

Did you happen to pick up the A & P coloring book and flash cards? It seems alot of fellow students have used them. You can also get them used...

Don't listen to the nay sayers... or the ones suffering from the Crab Effect. If you have ever seen a bunch of crabs in a pail, they pull the one climbing to the top down.

Good luck on your test & thanks for sharing your 1st day!

HI ALL!

Here is some encouragement!

We had our health fair tonight (4 shots! OUCH!)

The LVN that gave me the shot makes $37.00/hr doing agency! She said she is signed up for 2 agencies and turns down work CONSTANTLY. She could work seven days a week if she wanted to.

Although LVNs ''may'' be phased out of hospitals...

They are not being phased out of LTACs which are good places to keep skills up and make more money than a beginning RN until you become an RN (if that's what you want). I was told this by an LVN that works at the HOSPITAL the other day when I had to take my daughter.

So SMILE! You are on the right track! GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!

Thanks for sharing Nccatim. Here are some good websites to use for A&P - getbodysmart.com and innerbody.com.

I have only had a two people tell me not to "Waste my time" becoming an LPN, or that LPN program is really hard and I should be a CNA instead. Let me also add that those two people went into college initially wanting to be nurses, one dropped out and one couldn't get into the program - the crab effect, like JerseyN said.

Bcskittlez - That's awesome! Thanks for telling us!

fwardlaw: I'm impatient too. My orientation is April 21st and I am about to explode with excitement.

Did most of you take your A&P, and PSY ahead of time? I didn't and am going to have to take it along with the NUR courses. I am so worried about that and I am afraid my load is going to be too heavy to bear. I would like to know if any of you are in the same boat as I am. Just knowing that I am not alone will help. I am so excited about this new journey in my life and it has been a life long dream. I am so happy for each and every one of you and I love reading what each of you are doing. thank you all for contributing to this thread.
