BlkQueen8,

How is school going, are you liking the instructors and the campus?

Hi JamNurse2425,

I like the campus well enough. It's efficent and I'm starting to get the hang of it. We finally got our royal blue scrubs yesterday and are still waiting on our whites. The instructors are just ok. I think some of them really hit the nail on it's head because their calling was teaching but the other half are simply there for a paycheck. I have one for clinicals that's really worrying me. I don't think I'm going to be able to learn anything from her because she interrupts and takes over as you are trying to practice your skills. Also she trains us differently from the video and from what the other instructors are doing. One of my classmates have already complained on her.

Other than that they are ok, I really like our text books with all of the study guides. They've made everything easy to learn. I must admit other than doing homework I have not studied at all but have made Bs on all the quiz. I know with some effort on my part I'll make As so this week I'm going to buckle down and do it.

so how was the entrance exam?

Hi blkqueen8,

I'm glad to hear the truth about school from you, :yeah: some teachers are there to teach and some are there for a paycheck. I have one teacher for A&P, he doesn't help us study for tests at all, he tells us to read the whole chapter cause we'll never know whats on the test. But right before the test, he'll do a review of the test questions so of course everyone passes, but then he'll say "oh I'm not impressed with anyone's score because I did a review before the test." He only does the review so that we'll pass the test, and he'll look like a good teacher in front of the D.O.N.:nurse: He is strictly there for a paycheck.

Also we have lost so many people from our first term already, for various reasons. But we will lose some more when the end of term comes, because we need a 75% in each class and overall, and you have to pass the HESI exit exam. I not worried about class as much because I've got high percentages :D, but I am worried about the HESI exit exam, cause I'm not really sure how to study for it.

ok so wat school is this??

I'm starting in September 2010! I just got my letter of acceptance a week ago. I was happy and sad, because my husband may have to move away for work... but I'm excited just to get in!

Good luck to all those who are currently taking nursing, or will be in the future!

Specializes in Pediatrics, OB/GYN, ER, Geriatrics.
I will be starting the LVN program at Gurnick Academy of Medical Arts in Concord California January 4, 2010. 3 of my co workers have either gone and graduated or are in the process of going and they say its a good program. Can't wait. A co worker of mine who has already gone and graduated is letting me borrow his book so I can read up a bit before class and won't be totally shock at the curriculum with having some knowledge about what will be talked about in a sense.

I am so happy for all of you who are going to school and for the ones in school already, there will be tough days and great days but it is the tough days that build us as a person so keep up the great work and before you know it we will all be nurses :D

Babekins,

I also am going to Gurnick in Concord!!! Can you tell me what chapters are covered in Med/Surg 1 and Pharm 1? I start Jan 10, 2011 and would like to read ahead before class starts. Also if you know what to chapters to concentrate on for the nutrition class would most helpful to me.

I am coming in as a transfer student from a JC and so I was able to transfer a lot my credits over to this school, but my nutrition class did not have enough clock hours so I have to retake it there.

Thank you in advance

I'll be starting my program in February 2011!

I start January 7th, 2011

Good Luck
