New LPN students to start soon !! Come share your experiences :)

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Published

I am starting in September I figured it would be nice to start a thread where all of us new students could come and and share our experiences/help eachother out as we are on our way to be nurses :)

Hey, guys. I met one of my classmates on this tread. We got together and studied last nite over medical terminology. I don't start class until May 4th!!! I cant wait. I am so ready. I am going to get my physical today. Its bad when you are so excited about school that you are looking forward to your physical lol. I have orientation April 27th. Good luck to all. What kind of stuff do you guys plan on taking for lunch? We only get 30mins so I was trying to think of things to take that does not have to be microwaved.

RCH85, those websites are nothing short of AWESOME! Thanks alot!!

Hi Leslie, I took A&P, but I took it for the RN program. I will have to take it again in this school because it's a private school.

Shawna, May 4th is closer than you think! I love your pro-active approach, you already show signs of a stellar nurse!

Passed my entrance exam today (NET) - yay! Starting actual classes on April 29!

Yay to all of us! I start on April 27th! I am so excited and nervous as well! This will be a good supportive site for all of us. Great idea. I'll keep you posted once I start.

I too start April 27. Hmmm... are you going to Galen in louisville?

nccatim: 9 books? wow! sounds like i better get one of those bags with the wheels on it and some extra muscles. i have been hearing the same crap about lpn being phased out for the last twenty years. i have even started noticing that hospitals are starting to hire them again. lpns can perform many of the tasks of an rn at a much cheaper rate. i think that lpns will become more and more crucial to the bottom line as we move towards socialized medicine.

whew! first day ended... they passed out 9 books and almost everything fits in my bag...i will have to carry my lunch bag separately.

i'm nervous and excited. i got an email from a friend telling me (yet again) that lpn's are being phased out and there's a possibility that i'm wasting my money. but after the first day, i'm sooo pumped for this change!

rch85: i love links. thanks for posting them.

it is hard for me to understand why anyone would tell you to be a cna over a lpn. you and jerseyn are right. the "crab effect" is the only way to explain it. i am a cna and know more than my fair share. i cannot think of one single cna who would rather remain a cna if they could perform as an lpn -- especially towards the end of a shift and there are still 4 patients to lift and clean with call lights and nurses blasting in your ears.

[color=gray]thanks for sharing nccatim. here are some good websites to use for a&p - getbodysmart.com and innerbody.com.

[color=olive]lesliemadren: i am looking forward to hearing about how your orientation went.

my lpn program has no prereqs, so i will be taking my classes all at once. i do have an advantage that i had taken the classes years ago. while i could not test out of the class, atleast the terminology will not seem foreign to me. i also took the liberty of prevewing flashcards prior to my start date.

:yeah:you seem tough. i'm sure with support and your own drive that you will conquer these classes. :yeah:

[color=olive]fwardlaw: i'm impatient too. my orientation is april 21st and i am about to explode with excitement.

[color=olive]did most of you take your a&p, and psy ahead of time? i didn't and am going to have to take it along with the nur courses. i am so worried about that and i am afraid my load is going to be too heavy to bear. i would like to know if any of you are in the same boat as i am. just knowing that i am not alone will help. i am so excited about this new journey in my life and it has been a life long dream. i am so happy for each and every one of you and i love reading what each of you are doing. thank you all for contributing to this thread.

kkooper: i said a prayer for you *spinkles nursing dust on kkooper* :saint:

[color=gray]matchsticktgt i will hopefully *crosses fingers* will be starting the lpn program at jeff state this fall. what about you?

shawna2bnurse: yaay! we are start date twins!:yeah: i never thought about lunch. i surely don't want to be stuck purchasing it. even mcd's is almost 8 bucks for a "value" meal it seems. plus, i'm going to need to save commute time and gas. i think i'm gonna have to work on that. i'll probably have to hit up a recipe site and find something simple and needing minimal refrigeration. thanks for bring that up. i appreciate it.

Thanks for this post BCskittlez. Encouragement is right.

P.S. Sorry about the 4 shots

HI ALL!

Here is some encouragement!

We had our health fair tonight (4 shots! OUCH!)

The LVN that gave me the shot makes $37.00/hr doing agency! She said she is signed up for 2 agencies and turns down work CONSTANTLY. She could work seven days a week if she wanted to.

Although LVNs ''may'' be phased out of hospitals...

They are not being phased out of LTACs which are good places to keep skills up and make more money than a beginning RN until you become an RN (if that's what you want). I was told this by an LVN that works at the HOSPITAL the other day when I had to take my daughter.

So SMILE! You are on the right track! GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!

Hi Everyone! I had my first day today. We really only did basic stuff : went over our student handbook, met our teachers, learned our daily schedule, got our badges to wear on campus and met our fellow classmates. We also had a visit from the LPN students who are graduating this year from our program, so they gave us some pointers. Tomorrow we are getting syllabus' and we're gonna finish going over our handbook and stuff.

Teachers seem great, classmates are all friendly, so a pretty successful day.

OK so we had orientation today and you would have thought it was the first day of school! We got a sealed package with biology notes that said "Test on Tuesday on chapters 1-4"!!!! ......................I thought it was an April Fool's joke????? We didn't get our books so she moved the test to Thursday. Wow.

She gave us plenty of material to ready until tuesday tho.

Welcome to NS....

I'm starting at Herzing the 29th of this month...opted to get started before September and bypass JeffState altogether

RCH85: Your school sounds like a nice friendly and supportive environment. I am happy you had a pleasant day. I hope it stays that way. Congrats on your first day.

BCskittlesz: Wow! I would have wondered when Ashton Kutcher would come out of the closet and announce I was just Punked. LOL. I'm going to do my best to keep up. I know you are up to the challenge.

thanks for the website rch85!! i'm going to need it. i also got an anatomy book as a gift on the side. also, it's encouraging to hear that i'm not the only one hearing stuff about the lpn world. it's crazy someone even told you to stay a cna! they don't make more than $12/hr from what i heard...

i need to try and keep up with this thread more often! i'm so behind already! congrats on everyone about to start!!!

fwardlaw147 : yup! 9 books and i'm feeling it after the first week. keep in mind...this is for two subjects! lol. a rolling backpack might work for you definitely. lol

i know some people are trying to talk us out of lpn's, with good intentions so you can't get mad at them but it sometimes stings a little. i know that all of us has chosen this path because we truly believe this is the right route for us and where we go from there really is limitless! this thread is awesome and is providing a lot of support. go us! haha
