.....and is it the specialty you wanted to go to?
I graduated last night :) I was hired in April (and will start in July) for CVICU Stepdown.
I didn't really run into any areas during nursing school that I disliked, so I am happy. Jobs are VERY hard to find here right now ~ my class graduated 70 and I believe only about 6 of us have jobs ~ so I'm grateful for what I have.
Peds is probably where my heart lies. Maybe someday :)
Got hired onto a small MICU floor at a private hospital. Not my first choice either, wanted ED in the same hospital but its a step in the door and can work my way to that eventually. Also considering NP but don't know yet, have to get more experience. Here in New Orleans the job market is also stiff for new grads, just as everywhere I suppose.
i start in 3 weeks with my first ever rn position-full-time, rotating shifts as a rehabilitation nurse. i'm excited for it but the biggest drawback is the pay-i did research while looking for positions and where i'm going to be working is one of the lowest paying areas where i live...but it was the only full time position i could find-there isn't a shortage around here!
my dream job would probably be a psych unit. i've worked there in the past as a student and loved it!
er, turned down straight days no weekends or holidays and on call once per month for d/e/n, every other weekend and 1 year of orientation! cvicu & er were both my first choice, got both but after seeing a trauma it pushed me into the er. i am very scared but excited to learn everything i can

Where do you live? I know in Texas that Baylor, Parkland and Presby (in Dallas) hire into the NICU; In San Antonio Christus Santa Rosa hires into the Nicu and in Houston (where I live) I am not sure, I couldnt get a straight answer from recruiters, but Ithink Texas Childrens an Memorial Hermann hire into the NICU , but ALL of these places are extremely competitive to get into the NICU! The NICU was my dream
You will increase your chances if you have a BSN and are either an lvn or work as a nurse tech in that area before applying.. at least that was what I was told by recruiters. Hopefully the NICU isnt as competitive where you live!!!!
