Got hired for the ER. Love every minute of it. Dream job.

Had u done ER is a rotation in school like during you preceptorship? And did you have your ACLS before you applied, or were u allowed to get it within a certain time limit after you were hired?

I will be on Telemetry- cardiac-Plumonary. I wanted L&D or pediatrics. For now this will do just fine. I hate med/surge , this one more like a modified med/surge so I am very happy with this floor. I enjoyed it as a student nurse. so I am looking forward to it. I also choose night shift 7:15pm-7:00PM.

Congratulations! :yeah:

Thank you so much!!! :D

That is awesome!

:ancong!:

Your post give me hope that I'll at least get my desired hospital!

Thanks! :D And remember to always have hope! I knew exactly where I wanted to be even before nursing school started and even though I had to patiently wait, i got what I wanted and I hope you do too!.

Yup. Went out of my way during one summer to do a rotation though an ER to get more clinical experience plus it was not required by my school for graduation. Anticipating how the job market might be, I wanted to have something that would stand out in terms of additional experience/resume stuffer that would make me more competitive to my classmates and others who graduated. I also got my ACLS and PALS prior to applying.

I'm sure it was this experience that landed me this ER gig plus my prior 4yr degree in biological sciences at a university.

Oh ok....sheesh. lol I applied for an ER position because I can't be picky and I am gaining more interest in it, but I just don't know if I have a good chance since I have 0 experience and I havn't gotten my ACLS yet. I told them that I'd started looking at places to take the course, and they had told me b4 I interviewed to still apply because, if hired, they'd allow me to take it b4 i started. IDK...i interviewed Wed along with like 25 other ppl, so I'm waiting to get a final decision.

I hope you get it. ER is a blast and its something different everyday which makes going to work fun plus nerve wracking. Wish you the best.

If you do get hired on, most hospitals will pay for your ACLS, PALS, and other certifications. Plus they will pay for your time spent in the classes which is great. Due to the competitiveness of northern CA hospitals, it is a must to have all these certifications plus experience as a new grad to even land an interview.

Thanks for the info and encouragement! I hope I find out by next week. If not, I will wait til they have new openings elsewhere. The hospital itself seemed like a good fit....everyone was so nice and supportive, esp to new grads.

Let us know how it goes.
