thank you try not to worry too much, there is still plenty of time till they start in jan. and yes the position is in nicu. im still considered a new grad although i wont be starting when most do in jan. last time i talked to them she said i was the only one they had hired in the area so that makes me a bit nervous being in a class all by myself. they let me choose to either start the 12th or the 26th so hopefully by the 26th someone else will be starting with me, but if not, i guess ill just get some good ole' one on one teaching.

thanks! i however wont be working with hermann because i accepted a position with texas women's in the area i have always wanted i start oct 26th. i still have to call them back and say no thanks so that opens up another person for them to call. i listed any facility. i am not picky as to location if they have what i am looking for. i graduated in april with my bsn. no experience in the field otherwise such as a tech or student nurse.

Woman's Hospital of Texas interview
Thanks GoldenGirl22 and life_student! So what happened was that like a month or so ago I had called the nurse recruiter and asked her when they would be posting applications for New grad's and she said well why dont you just send me your resume and ill forward it to the manager of the area i want. So I did that and called back the next week to check on it and the new grad app's and she said she had forwarded it but had not heard anything back yet. And she said she probably wouldnt be posting the app online because so many people had already sent their resumes to her for the new grad positions. And then like the next day or so someone called me in for an interview! As far as questions go...I interviewed with two nurse managers and they had a packet of questions. Each person asked about 5 questions. Most were general scenario q's such as "Times can be hectic on the floor, how do you keep concentrated and focused to get everything done" "Tell me about a time where something was forgotten, tell me what you did to correct the problem" "Tell me about a time when you had to accomodate to circumstances beyond your control" "Some patients or family memebers can become unruly, tell me about a time when this has happened and what did you do" "Why do you want to work in NICU?" "Why woman's" Now most of those questions are not word for word how they were asked but the general jist of them. They wanted you to state the scenario, what you did, and the outcome of things. I did not feel intimidated by them because the mangers said its ok if you dont have an answer right now we can come back to it. And there was no right or wrong answer they said, they just wanted you to relax. They went over alot of stuff about the floor so they answered my questions that I was going to ask. They were very nice and gave me time to answer but I usually did within about 5-10 sec. If you have any more questions ill be more than happy to help.

Woman's Hospital of Texas interview
I had been calling the nurse recruiter and she told me last time i talked to her before i had an interview that she probably wouldnt post a new grad position online since she already had so many people emailing and calling her about it. So my advice would be to call her ASAP and send your resume to her and dont forget to follow up! O and the interview must have went well because they offered me a job on the spot !! Best of luck to you!

Thanks for the info! At least once you get the internship experience you can move around to another hospital that is closer to home, that is what i am planning on if i get a job outside of houston. Have an interview Tuesday and am so anxious that this may be the only one i get in Houston . And I agree with how Houston doesnt like new grads! ; )

Congrats on your new job! Do you mind if i ask at which hospital? Im in Houston and am still trying to find out which hospitals hire new grads. I would def. have to move though, but if its my dream job i would in a heartbeat!
