Yeah, I am weak in pharm and I ended up with 10 or more pharm questions...I PASSED with 75 questions....You can do it! Just focus on common endings and normal reactions to the drugs!!! Good luck to you!

SURVEY for 75 questions on NCLEX RN
I took the NCLEX RN on July 7th and had 75 questions, I was there for 90 minutes. I had 10 or more select all that apply(quit counting after the first 10), 10 or more meds(some I didn't know), 10 or more infection control, 1 drag and drop, lots of teaching, some peds and psych, but no math or OB. I actually felt really good while I was taking the test, not sure if it is because I told myself before hand that I was not going to know everything or not...THe thing is, you have to set yourself up to pass, not to fail. If you tell yourself that things are getting to hard, then you start to get discouraged. Try to stay confident thoughout the test. I left the center feeling like I passed, which was odd because most say they feel like they failed. I went home and did the pearson trick which indicated I passed, and 2 days later on JULY 9th I was posted on the BON website with a permanent license...I PASSED:nurse: So good luck to all!!! STAY confident, you can do this!

Diuril vs hyroDiuril
umm well diuril is more often given IV, and hydrodiuril is more given for maintenance dose form...Individuals suffering from CHF for instance with alot of edema would get IV diuril to decrease the sudden fluid, and individuals with just simply high blood pressure would more likely just get Hydrodiuril....also Hydrodiuril is more associated with increased loss of potassium, while diuril is with more loss of sodium and choride in equal parts and loss of potassium....Not sure if this makes since, but I just always remember that diuril(I think diet) results in loss of all, and hydrodiuril results in loss of K, and you are preventing the build up of H20.....not sure if that helps or not...

External Disaster Questions
I am not completely sure, but I thought that you were suppose to assess patients that were unstable but still had a chance at survival, then the ones that could wait waited, but you tag the ones that have no chance of survival and so on....so i guess it would go, something like injury and 2 needs for life support, injury and one need for life support, injury and 0 need for life support, and injury and more than 2 needs for life support.....life support including anything to support ABC's....I don't know, and honestly I passed on july 9th and have tried not to think about it to much sense...sorry...hopefully someone on here will direct you though!!!!!

why they say the REAL NCLEX is not what they expected
I have taken it and passed... They give both names for the drugs, and yes it does seem that they are ones that you see on commercials...never thought of it like that, but its true. There is alot of infection control, and priority questions... For me, I had lots of SATA questions, so that is a big thing to practice. THe questions do seem pretty straight forward, unlike Kaplan I didn't find it to be that bad, and let me just say I am not some nursing whiz, I had a bit of a rough time thoughout nursing school adjusting. SO I did close to 5000 questions to get myself in the mode of long test taking, and sitting still for long periods of time. Plus I did alot of Kaplan, because the questions are hard, when I took the NCLex I just kept going and didn't let myself get freaked out to much if I didn't know the answer, just used the process of elimination. Anyhow my best advice I can give is to do tons of questions and walk thru the door with confidence the day of the test. Stay positive, and don't doubt what you know...Good luck to all, remember you can do this!

Contact Precautions: You should know them forwards and backwards
the reason for the gloves being removed first is because the ties of the gown are not contaminated...just the same as when you remove a mask from your face. you want to make sure you have removed your gloves prior to to that...remember you are touching the ties, not the actual gown itself.

KAPLAN SCORES!!
Your scores on Kaplan are good...Feel confident, because you are doing good, and confidence will get you through this test. I was getting right around the same scores, but at the beginning my scores were weaker. I was one of the few that came out of the NCLEX thinking that I passed...I think the way Kaplan challenges you to answer questions prepares you for when you don't know something, so therefore when you are taking the NCLEX you can get though the exam without freaking out about not knowing something. I don't know if that really makes that much sense but that is my logic behind Kaplan....It builds endurance for long test, and builds confidence that you can figure questions out....See with Kaplan getting in the 60's is like getting an A on any other test....Good luck with your boards, and walk in there with your head held high that you ARE PREPARED....

My study plan for NCLEX!!!!
Ok, so taking the Nclex was something that I was terrified to do. I am a good student, but a horrible test taker! So I wanted to share my study plan with everyone here in case you are also not such a strong test taker. By the way I had 2 NCLEX reviews, one at my school which was KAPLAN, and the other that my employer supplied which was Sylvia Rayfields incredibly easy RN Nclex 101 review! First and foremost I had Kaplan thoughout school, similar to what ATI and HESI are just incase anyone would like a better understanding of how I did what I did.... So the week after graduation my school had a Kaplan review, our first day we had a diagnostic test and I only got a 50%, then that week was a review and during such I did Question trainers 1-3, on 1-54%, on 2-60%, on 3-50%, so the scores weren't great as you can see. On the last day we had a readiness test which we were told that we needed to make a 65% in order for our school to release our transcripts so we could sit for boards. Well needless to say I only managed a 59%, so instead I had to take a Nursing assessments test that Kaplan also has through my schools program(not in the normal Kaplan Review) and achieve a 65%, well I got a 68% so my school released my transcripts...I evaluated why I was missing questions, an most were simple mistakes like not reading the question right, or not knowing certain things, so I knew these things were big anxiety triggers and needed to be addressed before I sat for boards. My plan!!! So I had always planned on taking boards the first or second week of july, and I knew i wanted to take them on a tuesday, not sure why but thats what I had my mind set on, so I stuck to that plan and scheduled for tuesday July 7th! Knowing that I had about 6-7weeks to prepare I decided that the first thing I was going to do was take another question trainer to see if the review actually helped and my score increased. Well it did. but only slightly which was a 56%(4)...So that made me really nervous because Kaplan said we needed to get a 65% to be fully prepared and a 60% was exceptable also....At this point I needed more of a break down on what content was my trouble area, so I took the quizzes that were available through our schools Kaplan program. This was each section had a 30 question quiz, and larger sections had 2 or 3 quizzes and I did every single one of these quizzes. After I completed each one, I made a fact sheet of all the questions I missed, now I didn't copy the questions or anything I just pulled out what the topic was and stated a fact about it. After I completed all of those quizzes and reviewed my fact sheets I took question trainer 5 and got a 60%....Well that was an improvement and I felt that was pretty good. SO then I decided it would be a good idea to review the content videos from Kaplans Review course. I watched video after video and did qbank questions nonstop....I also made fact sheets on all the answers I missed just like I had done before......Then came the sylvia rayfield review june 9-11, at that time we had a pretest on the first day that she wanted us to complete, they said that you should achieve around a 70%, in which I got a 70% exactly....The course was basically just full of mneumonics and ways to look at questions differently. I found this to be a great content review!!!! So on the last day they said, if you recieve a 80% then you are ready for boards....This was the post test by the way, and I did recieve the 80% that they wanted....so anyway the book they gave us to do questions in had 10 content quizzes, a post test 2, and a pre-nclex exam...also ofcourse the pretest and post test 1.....So my job started on June 15th and from that point on, it was a lot to balance with trying to work and study all the time...By the way I am a parent and therefore couldn't really start studying until my daughter was in bed at night, so I was up very late most nights trying to do as many practice questions humanly possible...My plan was to go into the NCLEX knowing I had done everything I could to prepare myself....SO before boards my plan was to complete everything Kaplan related and everything in the NCLEX incredibly easy review book as well....again after each quiz I made a fact sheet(this was for recall mostly)...anyhow by the time I sat for boards I had completed all of my questions totally an astonishing close to 5000....NOW that is a little much I know, but I needed to do that to make me feel good walking though those doors......BECAUSE, anxiety is a big downfall I need to tame that anxiety by telling myself that I was ready and walking through the doors thinking I was going to pass!!! CONFIDENCE IS KEY!!!! I had done so many questions that I was ready to take all 265( or as ready as you can be, but prayed for only 75!) Anyhow, when I sat down for the test I was calm, I put in my earplugs and blocked out everything around me. After the tutorial I took a deep breath and told myself if the test doesn't shut off when I click next on question 75 then I will take a break, and calm myself. As I started the test my 2nd question was a select all that apply(not a strong point), but it wasn't so bad cause I told myself over and over these are just true/false questions I have had all my life..So I finally got to question 75 and when I clicked next the screen went grey then blue, and I took a huge sigh of relief, I took the survey at the end, and got out of the building as quickly as possible. I went to my car, and felt pretty good, I even told my mom I thought I had passed the exam...NOW I guess I am pretty odd, because most people came out crying and basically freaking out, whichI would assume is more normal than coming out feeling good...THat kind of worried me, but I just told myself that I must have come across some this material while I took those loads of practice questions, so thats why the material didn't really look all that bad to me...BUT I did have questions I didn't know, but I didn't freak out because that was expected...Its simply impossible to know everything and to think that you will not come across something you have never seen..So I prepared myself for those questions I didn't know by focusing on ways to figure them out...Anyways, that is how I studied, and on June 9th 2009 my name was posted on BON's website with a PERMANENT license number beside it....I PASSED!!! Every question I did, made it all worth it....SO anyone that is preparing for boards, know that you don't need to be the best test taker to pass, you just need to be calm, find ways to figure things out even when you are clueless on the content, and go in with confidence...... Here is a break down of my test...(reminder that each test is different) I had 75?'s 10 or more SATA 10 or more meds 1 drag and drop lots of isolation, priority and delegation little peds and psych NO math, No OB.... SO goodluck, and hopefully my long explanation with help you on what you can do to help yourself...what worked for me may not work for you....but when you find what works stick with it....!!!! GOOD LUCK TO FUTURE TEST TAKERS!!! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!

How many SATA ?'s
I had 10 but maybe more, I kept track and after I got to 10 I was done tracking them. I also wanted to add a friend of mine recently passed and she had no select all that apply questions...:) Good luck, just take each select all that apply and answer them like true false questions..Good luck to you!

Only one math question?
Hey, I didn't even have one math question....NOT ONE!!! nor any maternity!! and I passed, so feel good about yourself...i am sure you did fine!

i need RN advice PLEASE..
I am going to make this as short and sweet as possible.....I have severe test anxiety, and amazingly I did not have any anxiety once I sat down to take my exam.....crazy.....I told myself from the time I started studying that I could do this, so I basically convinced myself through positive self talk that I could do it, and I would pass....I did almost 5000 question, which i know is a little OCD, but I wanted to make sure that i had used every resource to its fullest value...plus, I didn't want to be thinking, what if I would have done this/or that...SO, The day of the test, I got up early, ate some breakfast let an hour ahead of time, got to the facility and sat in the sun until the doors opened...Once inside, we went through the registration process, then I entered the testing room....Once I sat down, put my ear plugs in I never even glanced over my shoulder until the computer shut off.....As I came upon each question I was sure to read it twice(fortunately they were not as wordy as Kaplan), after reading the question I chose 2 answers that were wrong right away...then I just sat there and thought about each of the answers and how they would effect the client with this disease/or problem...then I choose whichever one made more sense....When I came to ones I did not know which were some med questions, i simply looked that the suffix to see ifI could figure anything out by that....if I drew a blank i wrote the word down, hoping some recall would work, if it didn't then I went back to the answer choices to see if they would give away what they were asking....once figured out, or not figured out I used the ABC's and safety concerns to make my final judgement and choose and answer...I started at about 8am, and I walked out the door at 9:30 after answering 75 questions....Yay!!! I felt good after the test, which was odd because of the way others have responded in a complete horrific manor...anyhow...I passed, so my thought process was right atleast for that test that day and time...haha...So my suggestion is to go with your gut, don't second guess yourself, and before your test work on trying to take up to 265 questions so that you have the endurance for it if you need it...Good luck to you PS....take your time, you have 6 hours!!!!
-
Pearsonvue Trick Is this TRUE? Does it work every time?
I heard that it didn't matter if you got the last question right, that the computer has already determined if you have passed or failed based on the last 60 questions you took...whether you have 75 or 265....who knows...all i know is the trick worked for me and I had 75 questions, and I passed...Good luck to all!

kaplan can be depressing
You know, I think Kaplan does that on purpose...There questions are hard, and the NCLEX is hard...So by the Kaplan having such hard questions, when you have them on the actual NCLEX they don't freak you out as much and you try to work through them the same way you did when you studied...I was by no means great on Kaplan, I ranged from 50-66% on question trainers 1-5, then I got a 71 on question trainer 6, and a 64 on qt 7.....I normally scored in the 60's on the qbank towards the end of my studying, a few better a few worse...I completed all of the questions available, plus went back and did all the ones i got wrong the first time....On the NCLEX sample test for kaplan i got in the 70's on all 3....I think Kaplan really prepared me, cause I did not freak out during my test, and I actually came out pretty confident that I passed...>Good luck to you!!!

question about MI treatment
Yep.....ABC's......Don't mind me...I guess I am a little sleep deprived this morning....haha sorry!
-
question about MI treatment
I have always heard it as MONA....The rationale behind MONA is.....Morphine first, because as you said it decreases O2 demand, therefore giving O2 would be counter productive it you gave it completely first...So while these steps are generally done interchangebly in the NCLEX world morphine comes first...(in the real world, you would probably have O2 on hand so you would grab that first)...BUt remember this is always what inclex world wants....Then Nitro, then aspirin!! Good luck to you!!!!
