New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

i applied in ahpra nsw. if the application is successful, ahpra nsw will give you the "letter to do bp" and the "referral letter to The College of Nursing". CoN is the only school that offers the bp in nsw. CoN's main requirements are ielts, ahpra referral letter and visa. if you did not apply in nsw, inform the state where you applied that you're interested in CoN :D

yep, called up the college last week and i think that's how it goes. College of Nursing requires the 'referral letter' from AHPRA NSW for you to undergo a BP in their institution, that's what the lady told me.

I am yet to contact NSW branch for this matter. thanks for sharing. :)

fill up that request form.. go to a bank, request for a manager's check for the amount you will pay.. send the request form to IDP together with manager's check..

before going to the bank, ask first the IDP what will be typed on the manager's check as payee, is it "IDP Philippines" or "IDP"...

they should accept manager's check as payment, unless the one you talked have a low iq..

cheers!

Thanks for the reply! I guess I'm gonna do what you just said. That sounds possible for me now.

help! i'm going to The College of Nursing in Burwood NSW this April 25. CoN is not CRICOS registered so I can't get a student visa. my only option is the 456 visa, which will only let me stay for maximum 3 months per entry. i want to stay in australia for at least 6 months to have enough time to wait for the license and find work. if i opt for the 456, i will have to exit oz after 3 months then return, plane tickets are expensive! help! is there another visa option for me?

has anyone been able to successfully call ahpra lately? i've been contacting my case officer but i've been answered by a machine for weeks now.

The only official information I could find about the 8503 condition that can be applied to any visa and that you have signed the visa application knowing this can be applied..it can be waived in exceptional circumstances as described and you can get bridging visa while waiting outcome, (before visa runs out) I wish you luck, I do not think awaiting nurses registration or looking for work will waive this restriction (though who knows, its worth a try) The restriction is that you cannot be given another visa while in the country....I have heard New Zealand is Australian visa renewal heaven, not too expensive to fly there, get new visa then re enter country.

International nurses in Julywere allowed to change to visitors visa due to the transition with national board and took some time to register so that they could apply for graduate visas but this is after studying for 2 years. Somebody may have more information that has changed visas or had the condition waived.

ps I am not immigration agent nor employed by DIAC, I am no authority.

ps it may have been imposed on your visa if you already had a tourist visa current apparently according to one source of mine.

AHPRA emailed me asking for my certificate of good standing which I already sent them last September 2010... sigh... i hope they can find it. :(

thanks! i have xy chromosome. maybe when i already know the uniform, i'll ask my parents to buy and send it to oz through courier. is it safe to send things other than letters by post?

my opinion, it is safer to send package via phil.post.office, if, you send from phils. to aussie.. the cannibalism happens if package are coming from outside going to phils., that's the time they phil.post eat your package and gives you lame excuses...

now, you should know what NOT to send in the package (e.g. liquids, powder, food)... my suggestion, once you arrive here in oz, xerox your passport, visa, and entry stamp, then send that copy to your parents.. when sending that package, send the xerox (place inside of course, on top of you clothes).. this will prove that you;re a new temporary resident in oz who just arrive thus you need your designer's clothes.. hence, oz customs will give you consideration and will not slap you with tax duties, otherwise you might pay hefty duties (which is a remote possibility).. and remove all price tags (if any) from your clothes, and wash those new clothes before packaging them.. tricks of the trade.. its just a one time deal.. ya know..

Thanks for diligently answering my queries. The College of Nursing in requires me evidence that I'm both not infected and immune to Tuberculosis. I assume clear CXR results and (+) Mantoux Test are enough proofs?

1) A positive (+) mantoux test means you are already exposed to the TB virus (like me, i am), but that's normal for health workers like us..

2) Depending on the books/country, if you have BCG before, then it may give a false positive result of mantoux test..

3) If you are positive mantoux, the next thing is for you to have a CXR to determine if you still have all lobes in your lungs, or no more lungs.. and besides CXR, it is best to also get a certification from a specialist doctor where you will present your mantoux and CXR, for that doctor to cerftify that he/she sees no clinical s/sx of TB when looking at you.. this will establish that you are healthy and you can kiss anybody because your sputum is free of tb virus..

4) if you are already exposed to TB (like me), in theory and i think you agree in practice, we should not be given a vaccine anymore, were already exposed (like you do not get chickenpox vaccine, if you already had chickpox before)..

5) if you have a (-) mantoux, and a good CXR result, then that's the ideal situation.. now, the question is, will you have to get a BCG vaccine at this point, as ive mentioned before, kindly ask a doctor on this, esp. if such adult vaccine exist because this is the thing that is unclear to me..

cheers!

i got your point, indeed you need something in your situation.. im not familiar with CRICOS / DIAC rules on student visa, but nway, you're sure that you cannot get student visa (?), not that i dont believe, just trying to explore possibilities here.. were not perfect ya knw..

explore that option ceridwyn explained, e.g. fly to NZ..

otherwise, i cant see anything else, as you said you have a 676 visa but still with 3 month stay, multiple entry..

here's a conservative and realistic gamble that you must make:

1) get 456 visa, study BP, then request for extension of your 456 visa, as a rule, you are allowed to request it and who knows you will be granted.. i think it all depends on your justifications..and luck.. donate eggs to the pink sisters missionary, they will help you pray for rain..

2) if you are not granted extension, then no choice, gotta go back to phils.. but men, if this happens, just look at the bright side and long term... yes it is expensive (but you can save a bit by purchasing ticket from budget airlines like jetstar, blue, virgin, tiger), and buy them in advance.. besides long term wise, you can pay for this extra expenses once you start working, if anyone of you have credit card, use it, just pay the minimum amount due while you are not yet working, once you start working, you can pay that in less than 2 mos. time..

me, i still have outstanding debts in credit card in the phils. which im paying monthly minimum amount, i can pay it anytime now (ive worked less than 3 months here yet), but i just hold on to my cash instead of paying my card.. that's called leverage... at the end of the day, if you could not pay, credit card companies cant do nothing much ( i know, i used to work in the banking sector)..

good luck, explore your options, pray..

thanks! this is advise is very economical. i will remember this one. how many days from phil to oz by post? which is more expensive, tax on postal package or courier?
