New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

1) A positive (+) mantoux test means you are already exposed to the TB virus (like me, i am), but that's normal for health workers like us..

2) Depending on the books/country, if you have BCG before, then it may give a false positive result of mantoux test..

3) If you are positive mantoux, the next thing is for you to have a CXR to determine if you still have all lobes in your lungs, or no more lungs.. and besides CXR, it is best to also get a certification from a specialist doctor where you will present your mantoux and CXR, for that doctor to cerftify that he/she sees no clinical s/sx of TB when looking at you.. this will establish that you are healthy and you can kiss anybody because your sputum is free of tb virus..

4) if you are already exposed to TB (like me), in theory and i think you agree in practice, we should not be given a vaccine anymore, were already exposed (like you do not get chickenpox vaccine, if you already had chickpox before)..

5) if you have a (-) mantoux, and a good CXR result, then that's the ideal situation.. now, the question is, will you have to get a BCG vaccine at this point, as ive mentioned before, kindly ask a doctor on this, esp. if such adult vaccine exist because this is the thing that is unclear to me..

cheers!

you're a nurse in nsw right? what lab results/vaccine for tuberculosis did you present during your application for license/finding work? NSW Health Department requires me to do the TB screening in a "local chest clinic". what's that? I'm already done with my CXR and TST. The doctor referred me to a Pulmonologist.

i got your point, indeed you need something in your situation.. im not familiar with CRICOS / DIAC rules on student visa, but nway, you're sure that you cannot get student visa (?), not that i dont believe, just trying to explore possibilities here.. were not perfect ya knw..

explore that option ceridwyn explained, e.g. fly to NZ..

otherwise, i cant see anything else, as you said you have a 676 visa but still with 3 month stay, multiple entry..

here's a conservative and realistic gamble that you must make:

1) get 456 visa, study BP, then request for extension of your 456 visa, as a rule, you are allowed to request it and who knows you will be granted.. i think it all depends on your justifications..and luck.. donate eggs to the pink sisters missionary, they will help you pray for rain..

2) if you are not granted extension, then no choice, gotta go back to phils.. but men, if this happens, just look at the bright side and long term... yes it is expensive (but you can save a bit by purchasing ticket from budget airlines like jetstar, blue, virgin, tiger), and buy them in advance.. besides long term wise, you can pay for this extra expenses once you start working, if anyone of you have credit card, use it, just pay the minimum amount due while you are not yet working, once you start working, you can pay that in less than 2 mos. time..

me, i still have outstanding debts in credit card in the phils. which im paying monthly minimum amount, i can pay it anytime now (ive worked less than 3 months here yet), but i just hold on to my cash instead of paying my card.. that's called leverage... at the end of the day, if you could not pay, credit card companies cant do nothing much ( i know, i used to work in the banking sector)..

good luck, explore your options, pray..

thank you! :gingerbreadman: if i really have to exit after 3 months, i hope i have the money to tour New Zealand/Middle Earth. i hope a miracle happens like i get hired immediately after bp..

my opinion, it is safer to send package via phil.post.office, if, you send from phils. to aussie.. the cannibalism happens if package are coming from outside going to phils., that's the time they phil.post eat your package and gives you lame excuses...

now, you should know what NOT to send in the package (e.g. liquids, powder, food)... my suggestion, once you arrive here in oz, xerox your passport, visa, and entry stamp, then send that copy to your parents.. when sending that package, send the xerox (place inside of course, on top of you clothes).. this will prove that you;re a new temporary resident in oz who just arrive thus you need your designer's clothes.. hence, oz customs will give you consideration and will not slap you with tax duties, otherwise you might pay hefty duties (which is a remote possibility).. and remove all price tags (if any) from your clothes, and wash those new clothes before packaging them.. tricks of the trade.. its just a one time deal.. ya know..

you will pay custom duties only if the total cost of the package is over 900aud.

thanks! this is advise is very economical. i will remember this one. how many days from phil to oz by post? which is more expensive, tax on postal package or courier?

the venerable javRN answered your question.... in addition to that answer, the philpost will tell you that your package will arrive in 3 weeks time, but i was surprised it arrived less than that, i think just 2 weeks.. mails/packages comes here quicker from phils. than going to the phils..

it doesnt matter whether it's postal or courier, dutytaxes is the same, it boils down to your content and value of it as javRN mentioned..

..

1) just wondering why NSW health department comes to the picture when you're not yet hired by them.. anyway, i assume maybe CoN referred you to read the memo of NSW health department regarding TB?? or NSW HEALTH DEPT. owns CoN??

2) i wish and i assume that your CXR and TST were done by a doctor (or clinic) who is accredited by DIAC?? if he/it is accredited then you just send explanation that you have done it, that you are in the phils., that the doctore/clinic is DIAC accredited.. otherwise, if they insist it to be in "local chest clinic" then they should understand that you cannot comply it now because you are in the phils..

im just really uncomfortable why NSW health dept. "requires" you at this point?? if i am hired by NSW health dept. then they will require me..

nsw health department requires students and health care workers who will have their duties in the health care facilities of nsw to have immunization against certain communicable diseases. maybe CoN is under nsw health dept. yes, CoN e-mailed me the nsw immunization record for tb, mmr, hepa b, dpt, chicken pox, varicella, etc.

is the nursing home where you're working under the nsw health dept? are you not working under nsw health dept? who are they anyway?

the nsw immunization record that was e-mailed to me by CoN does not indicate that things should be done by DIAC accredited clinic/doctor. from my understanding, when i apply for a certain oz visa and i'm required to undergo a medical examination, then that's the time i go to a DIAC accredited doctor/clinic...?

if you have time, can you please post here how you completed your immunization? thank you.

1) my suspicion was correct then, it was something to do with that NSW memo which covers students doing duty in public hospitals..

2) im in a private nursing home, not covered by some certain specific NSW health dept. rules..

3) you can complete your immunizations from any doctor/s of your choice there in the philippines (as what i did).. just make sure to get certification and that your doctor have a contact number.. with regards to the TB CXR, i had it done specifically from a pulmonologist (not accredited by DIAC), and TST by a pediatrician/GP/family doctor.. get their certification too.. but im fully aware that i will have a CXR from a DIAC accredited clinic when i get my visa.. therefore i know that when i arrive here in oz, i can completely present to them a "reliable and believable" result of my TB status because i had it done both my own doctor of choice and a DIAC accredited clinic/doctor..

4) email CON and explain your situation, they should know the answer because they normally deals with foreign students.. ask them about the TB requirements, e.g. CXR by accredited DIAC clinic, because you are here not there.. the other vaccines are not complicated to comply, it's the TB rules which are tricky, that's why you need to clearly ask CON..

5) or better yet, after all ive written above, hopefully anyone here who have gone thru CON would give the straightforward answer...

thanks cioman! i'll present to CoN my immunization records and ask them if there are still things i need to accomplish. :smokin:

Hello, I'm going to apply for a student visa to study the bridging program.. Since the bridging program is non-award, s the Non Award Sector: Temporary Visa (Subclass 575) Assessment Level 2 right visa to apply? and AUD550 is right fee for the student visa?

Will greatly appreciate all the help.. Thanks in advance..

do anyone have a sample of the recommended format of cv? i need a already made cv. thanks! please send it to [email protected]

Dear Cioman, apparently all new staff to NSW health, need to prove vaccination to TB and clear x-ray plus all current vaccinations, heard this from someone who moved there recently and applied successfully to a public hospital. So not just students......and how is it all going living in Australia?

Queensland just had a cyclone. And they're devastated.. AGAIN. Hope all is well with the other states. And i think autumn is nearing already coz the weather is changing bit by bit everyday.
