New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Specializes in Oncology, Medical.

jakey, i thought you are waiting for the NBV? what happened?

That cv will be used in applying for iron program/work so its easier to get it done right away than later.

hey, jakey, don't give up, bro..take it one entry on the CV at a time, Im sure you will be able to do it..you've come this far already...hang on, bro.

Hello everyone! I am new here although I have been following this thread for quite some time. I would say that this forum has been very informative and very helpful. Just like everyone I am also interested to go to Australia through a Bridging Program. I have in fact applied with NBV and sent all the required documents on the first week of May 2010. Thus, I am on a waiting mode too. I understand that with the National Registration, I guess I will have to wait longer. I am quite anxious because I am not sure if I still have lacking documents. I emailed AHPRA inquiring about the status of my application a week ago but there is no reply yet. Bdw, I also miss the posts of JavRn, Ryan and Chabeli. I wonder where they are now. I would love to hear those who have received approval already from AHPRA.

I'm quite confused with this? What is secondary and tertiary course? I thought secondary is referring to highschool and tertiary is referring to university education? But now I'm thinking maybe secondary refers to undergraduate educ, and tertiary is postgrad educ. Which is which?

Hello guys. It appears that the batch before us in our bridging program finished just before July 1 (the day the National Registration took effect) & they were at that time under the NBV. So the news is that they are now expecting 3 months before they get registration. Whether it be the registration itself or the hard copy I don't know. Now our batch is the first batch to finish after July 1. Our BP provider has told us that the NMBA has provided them with a new form for the recommendation of registration for the overseas nurses. So with this process, it looks like we are the test subject for this & we will know soon whether we will have a faster or slower time of getting registered as compared to the last batch. I just hope it's the former. If anything new comes up I'll let you know guys.

Hi imsodizzy. Your feedback will definitely give us a leverage especially that I am still waiting for my approval letter. I really hope you'll get registered fast despite the transition.:)

hey thanks imsodizzy, everyone will be grateful.

and same as salmonella, i would also like to hear from anyone who has received approval from AHPRA. :)

what's your current status mikyong? I mean are you also waiting for approval letter? If so, when did you start applying? Just curious..:)

hello,

I have lodged my application last june and im still waiting for any news from AHPRA too... I was able to get through via AHPRA victoria's phone last week, i called them up to verify if they are already holding all my supporting documents as they were sent in different dates, the lady enumerated the documents received under my name, and it seems like its all on their hands now... i asked if my application is already on process but she cant give me a definite answer, she just told me to wait for a response because they are still dealing with the transition process.

may i ask if you have submitted a CV before? :)

i can't seem to download the PDF of the standard format of Curriculum Vitae on the website. it was posted a while back that there was a mistake and that the CV will just be signed by us. I don't know if i should still have my CV signed by my employer or not. what do you think guys?

Mikyong, I think we have the same problem. I did not include a CV because it was not a part of NBV's checklist then. Should we submit or should we wait for their advice? To rncoco, I read somewhere in this thread that there was a mistake, so our signature will suffice, not the employer's signature. Anyone, please correct me. If you could share the CV format here, please do so. Thanks a lot.:)

according to one forumer who has recently visited AHPRA Victoria to ask about this, it is the work statement that should be signed by the employers. IMHO, since i havent seen a personal CV signed by an employer as well, ill be just sending the signed work statement instead, i am not sure if that would suffice though. or you can personally phone them up or leave an enquiry on their website, just to be precise.
