New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

@ wingcharm! u go girl! i'll pray for you.:heartbeat :balloons:

Getting the passport alone is already a cause for celebration. I heard a lot of nurses are denied just because of the show money part.

At the moment i'm having doubts with this BP thingy. I'm afraid I might not be able to handle the financial requirements so m checking other options.

By July, fresh graduates are still accepted and everyone will need to undergo bp regrdless of country of origin. Anmc will be the one to accredit the bp programs and anmc competencies are still the standard in the natl reg. That's why all programs leading to registration as a nurse in all states are all recognized bec they are all based from anmc. That includes the bp, arntp, cas, conversion, and preregistration.

Phils is at risk bec of the 10 yr educ system. The question is: do Filipino nurses qualify for bp or do they need to do 1-3 yr undergraduate program again depending on the assessment. But if you came from an aus recognized skul, the natl reg is nothing and life goes on. 2nd coursers are also at risk. That's what's worth knowing.

Wrong...not all countries have to do a bridging course. All countries must have a current IELTS passed at one sitting of 7 academic even overseas students that study in Australia if their previous secondary education was not predominately in english.

Received all my vaccines from the Philippines. It's cheaper. A visit to the doctor in Australia costs around 60$.

Hi, bro... I'm also bound for ETEA. Apart from bringing in thick clothing for the cold weather there, I'd like to know if their students are required to wear uniforms in class, specifically in clinical placements? If so, do you mind describing what are those and where can we get them while we're still here? And lastly, do students need to bring basic apparatus like stethoscope, sphygmos, etc.? As I understand it's more cost-effective to get it from here. Thanks in advance, bro!

Is it already confirmed that nurses from commonwealth countries plus USA are exempted from bp?

Specializes in Oncology, Medical.
hi... i wish I could join you guys...... when is the next one? :)

where is wahine888? girlassh? gemini_star?

Hi jakey, I received the colorful letters today! yay! :yeah:How is your application?

congrats gemini!

@imsodizzy reiken and i have the same concerns...

Specializes in Neonatal Intensive Care.
UniSa bp is 6 mos long and is called arntp

bp in nbv is called iron/ircon and is 2.5-3.5 mos long depending on your competence

nbv's bp will be standardized soon and will be the norm in all states. So expect arntp and qld's cas to be scrapped

It's wise to apply by July 1 instead. Bec nbv is the only one offering bp now and they're having massive delay bec of influx of applcations. It's been 1+ mos already and my application is still in their mailbox waiting under assessment. Jeez

biggest threat: phils education is only 10 yrs so only aus recognized unis may be the only ones to qualify for bp. Right now it's case by case. Doesn't matter much where you graduate. So let's keep ourselves updated with the change.

It's wise to do your ielts while waiting for the natl registration.

ARNTP at UNISA its only 18weeks for October 2010 intake, tuition fee is 12++KAU

where did you guys get the information about the national registration this july? i emailed ahpra but they could not give me sufficient info for international applicants until 1st of july.. i am interested to apply in queensland.

I might as well consider arntp for my options since it became shorter: 4.5 mos + 2 weeks christmas break and it begins this oct 8. But student accomodation in Adelaide is a lot more expensive compared with deakin (250-300+75 bills+parking fee). Omg. It will easily reach 400/week). Don't know too if they have human services scholarship. Need to think about it.

@drednag i asked someone from nbv about this, she just said rules and regulations remain the same. i don't think there's something we should br worried about otherwise they could've informed us thru the letter. :) hey hoe are u doin the vaccines?

i hope the new rules will take into consideration nursing work experience as a plus factor, rather than focus on whether or not you are a second courser (as mentioned here by a fellow forumer)... because i am a second courser but i do have 2 plus years of experience as a staff nurse...:smokin:

anyway, thanks for the info, bro... please pm me your email add, bro so i can send to you the immunisations required by etea...have you filed your application to them already? what's the status now? i still have to complete the documentations of my immunisations..in fact, will go to the doctor later...:D

@imsodizzy..i have the same concerns as reiken and newmac, too... :) appreciate your input.. hey, did i get it right that your class is just composed of 8 people? wow, that's a small class..hehehe i wonder how many we'd be during the september intake?:up::up:
