New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

i had my phone interview by VCHN last friday. it was very brief.. 3 questions and less than 5 mins i think. they told me they will contact me regarding the result. when i read the posts here, they were already told that they made it.. im still having second thoughts of calling them.. maybe ill sound desperate? hehehe

hi im planning to register in SA, since my relatives are there. which university would be okey for bp? and how about hiring of nurses there? thank you

i plan on nmbsa, as i have back read thru ryanoz's post, i need to register to nbv, am i right? what is this july 1, 2010 regulation agency in nbv, do i need to register before july or after the july australian health practitioner regulation? and is ielts needed upon registration or can i take it while on the process? i took ielts last 2006 and its expired already

UniSa bp is 6 mos long and is called arntp

bp in nbv is called iron/ircon and is 2.5-3.5 mos long depending on your competence

nbv's bp will be standardized soon and will be the norm in all states. So expect arntp and qld's cas to be scrapped

It's wise to apply by July 1 instead. Bec nbv is the only one offering bp now and they're having massive delay bec of influx of applcations. It's been 1+ mos already and my application is still in their mailbox waiting under assessment. Jeez

biggest threat: phils education is only 10 yrs so only aus recognized unis may be the only ones to qualify for bp. Right now it's case by case. Doesn't matter much where you graduate. So let's keep ourselves updated with the change.

It's wise to do your ielts while waiting for the natl registration.

wow, thank you terdjay, now its clearer! ill try to take my ielts instead!:)

will the new nursing rules this july affect those who have already received letter of eligibility from the different nursing councils?

@drednag i asked someone from nbv about this, she just said rules and regulations remain the same. i don't think there's something we should br worried about otherwise they could've informed us thru the letter. :) hey hoe are u doin the vaccines?

i don't have a record of my "baby" immunizations... :( how do i provide a record that i indeed had the vaccines?

go to your local health centre..or you might as well have yourself tested with these anti bodies...;)

---anyone? thank you

i would like you to pm me if your question is a bit private or personal...just keep on posting here until you reach 15 posts then you can send private messages...

or just post your queries here and everyone will answer it as much and as accurate as they (we) could..:)

So now, I've got my passport and I'll be taking my IELTS next week. The anxiety is making me crazy. Sheesh! And I'm not even sure if I still want to study in Curtin or take the BP instead. But maaaan, I still have to make sure that I get all 7 in IELTS. Just venting guys. :(

thank you ryan. i will be posting here my queries as soon as i register on july. but for now i have to take my ielts and keep myself updated with the au registration changes. :)

I have heard that the new National rego board is going to stick to experience only nurses to register, as skilled nurses are supposed to be the immigrants needed for the Australian community. We have plenty of new grads and its a skill mix thing, we have plenty of Australian educated new grads, its experience that is required amongst our profession. Apparently the NBV recommendations were not taken on board.
