New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

@drednag i just called etea a few minutes ago. they said i should call them back tomorrow. ill probably have my antibodies check to prove that i really had the vaccines.

would it be better if i take my ielts first and register this july? or register now and take the ielts later? thank you

that greatly depends on your confidence, whether you feel you can pass the test or not.

Hi jakey, I received the colorful letters today! yay! :yeah:How is your application?

where are you heading gemini star?

hello! everyone! good day! its been a long time since my last log in. i've read some of the post. congratulations to ryan and chabeli... and to everyone who got there letter from nbv and for those who are bound to oz..

can i ask anyone who remember this post im going to paste... can you tell me who post this

im in university of ballarat right now... taking bachelor of nursing post-registration (bnp).. this is a one yr course.. after completion.. ub directs my course to bacehlor of nursing (bn) which is an extra semester (6 months) to complete the course. upon completion.. i will be reg as div1 nurse already.. right now.. i finished all my theory classes.. just waiting for my clinical placement.. then that's it...

as far as i know, these are the accredited pre registration courses from the nurses board of victoria:

la trobe university- course name: advanced diploma in nursing

university of ballarat- re-rentry program for div1 rn and pre-registration program for overseas qualified nurses (ppoqn)

here are some institution in victoria with accredited initial regestration courses for overseas qualified nurse (3 or so months course)

deakin uni

eastern health

education training and employment australia

la trobe uni

mercy health training institute

mt. alexander hospital

ramsay health care

robinvale district health service

royal womens hospital

south west healthcare

stawell regional health

st. vincent & mercy private hospital

victorian college of health and nursing (which is the college ur talking about)

for initial registration courses and ppoqn, one must comply all the requirements to nbv:

which is at least one yr experience in hospital and ielts band score of 7.0 and nothing below 7.0 in all subtests..

if one cannot comply to their requirements.. then you have another option.. the pre registration course.. which is a longer course..

for university of ballarat (1 1/2 yr)

no need to apply to nbv.. just apply directly to university.

ielts requirements as for now is 6.5 band score and nothing below 6.0 in subtests.. (i hope this will not change)

no need for clinical experience as well

you will be on student visa in which you're allowed to work for 20 hours a week

cheers!!

i could not remember who post this one. its been posted too long ago.:):) i would just like to ask him few questions on how he manage to get in uni ballarat. i was planning to take same path.. :):hpygrp:

thankss

my suggestion would be for you to apply now and then take ielts afterwards...because your application will be put on qeue...your application or your approval letter from the nbv will expire in two years anyway, so theres enough time for you to take ielts over and over again (im not saying you wont pass ielts hey?)...

whatever you decision is, its always right cos its your own decision you know your very own self than anybody else ;)

hi, thanks your congratulations ;)

my friend who is an indonesian nurse, she is currently taking the bnp program of uni of ballarat...however i cant remember if she told me if she still have to take the 6 months bn for her to be eligible to register as a div. 1...

i have also enquired at la trobe before about a program for overseas nurses, unfortunately i cant remember the details and the name of the course anymore..on the other hand, deakin uni is running a similar course for overseas nurses whos eilts results are below 7...i saw and met a lot of overseas nurses who were doing the course when i was doing the 3 months initial reg course at deakin...i just dont know if they still need the approval of the nbv or apply directly to the uni...the best thing to do is to ring the uni and ask info...

but since the program is only one year, you still have to submit an ielts result before applying for a registration and you need to have 7 band score in each component...(theres always a catch)..

hi jesse gurl,

I'm planning to take the BP at Mt. Alexander Hospital. I'm crossing my fingers to get in on their last schedule this year.

hi ryan

will deakin still offer the initial registration for overseas qualified nurses next year 2011? i checked their undergraduate course guide for 2011, but i didnt see this IROQN course.

thanks

^^

hi hi_ho09, better for you to ring them...:) i honestly dont know the answer..

its not an undergraduate course its a non-award course...so you cant see it in their list of courses, as they are not constantly offering the course...:)

contact them using these email addresses..they will respond to every email.. heres the link: http://www.deakin.edu.au/hmnbs/pdu/staffcontacts.php
