Hi everyone, please help me.
I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.
Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.
That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.
However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.
I already have my bachelors degree here.
When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?
After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?
Thank you!
are there people here who are bound to enrol for Aged Care Work in NSW?and why are the TAFE course fees of some schools like South Western Sydney Ins. cost 5,570$ for 6 mos and another would cost 686$ from OTEN?
I am.
I didn't know about the BP until I joined the forum. And by then I already lodged my application.

The immigration department does not grant student visas for Certificate III in Age care.. If you're registered nurse.. if you are aiming to get registered in Australia as a Division 1 nurse.. either you get pre-registration course for 3 months (if you have hospital experience).. or Re-entry course (with or WITHOUT hospital experience) for 1 and a half yr or some institution 2 yrs for that.. pls find my other post for information about the re-entry and post registration courses...

As what I have told you.. I have entered first on BNP (bachelor of Nursing Postregistration) which definitely would not lead you to registration.. (I have completed that course for a year..) That is why UB have shifted me to Bachelor of Nursing (BN) (now i am in that course.. which would only take 1 more semester for completion.. then registration..BN which is typically the course here in Australia for the locals is a 3 yr course and immediate registration...
So accreditation from my previous academic subjects in the Philippines plus BNP + BN (for just 6 months) = registration...
UB has been doin this for years for group of international students... most of my classmates are from India.. with the same pathway... as for the moment.. we're fifty in a class (block section for just international students of overseas nurses).. we start from BNP.. then we're now in BN doin our clinicals.. by june.. if we get things done.. registration will come..
so now.. we're applying in NBV for registration that will come in June.. our application in NBV will be under NEW GRADUATES... NOT under "Overseas Trained Nurse".. please refer to NBV website... which comes under NEW GRADUATES the qualifacation would come under BACHELOR OF NURSING
Hi, heartblock!
When you submitted your Philippine credentials to the University of Ballarat, did the school tell you right away that the BNP-BN was the appropriate path for you, and that you can expect no glitches along the way? I'm just wondering if the school will assess my credentials in the same way as yours... I have a US Associate Degree in Nursing and hold a US RN license. Is your program applicable to all foreign RNs regardless of the number of years spent on nursing school? I do have a previous Bachelor of Science degree (non-nursing) - would that help in any way to make up for my merely 2 years in nursing school? Any thoughts?
Thanks! Would appreciate a response from you. :-)
hi chocokat, i submitted my initial application to nswnmb 1st week of november. so far no response yet from the board. my friend applied there before i did and she got a reply from the board after 5 months but she didnt push through with her application. so lets wait at least for 5 months from the time we submitted our application.
hello hai_hoo
Is it true that you are bound to NSW? I have plans in working in NSW as well. I have a degree of BSN in the Philippines and Im wondering if I would have to take another degree of Nursing in Australia in order for me to register. I have read some posts here regarding how to register but theyre for different states. And unfortunately, I still am confused with the process.
Can u pls enlighten me? or anyone in this forum, any information to share esp. those who are registering for NMBNSW? For now, I just want to be cleared on what step to do first. Should I send my application to the board first and let them asses my qualifications? Will i have to do bridging programs or take pre-registered courses? what's the difference between the two? and should I also take the competency assessment? I have lots of queries in mind for I am really interested in working as a nurse in Australia. I am hoping for your kind consideration and your immediate response. Thank you.

Hi, kristeeta. Allow me to quote this from an email response from them: "The Division 1 graduate program is for newly qualified nurses who have their registration with the nurse's board of Victoria and have less than 12 months working experience as a Division 1 Nurse." :) Hope it helped a bit.
