Hi everyone, please help me.
I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.
Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.
That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.
However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.
I already have my bachelors degree here.
When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?
After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?
Thank you!

by the way, i emailed nbv regarding the national registration that's coming up if this will affect the registration for overseas nurses taking up bp. i was very concerned regarding this matter because queensland already ceased their competence assessment service program. i was afraid that after the change come july, iron program will not be sufficient anymore to guarantee us license to practice nursing and this is the reply i got.
"as far as nbv is concerned it is business as usual in victoria . we are continuing to assess applications, approve courses and register nurses.
regards"
so i guess it still is safe to take up the iron program.
i was able to see the letter. it was a well written 2 page document with the second page showing all the subjects that were credited from my previous course. it wasn't signed by the dean when i saw it, and they were the ones who sent it to nbv. you have the option to choose either snail mail or via fedex. i'll just have to stress once again that it is really difficult to ask this from them.as for the waiting time, yes it did take me a long time before i got news from nbv and i had to call them also for update as to the status of my application. however, it all really depends on how efficient your evaluator is. so it varies. if your evaluator will attend to your application right away then you are lucky and your application will get approved fast. also, i know that some evaluators don't like to be asked for follow up so you will find that only answering machines will take your calls. also if you happen to talk to them, they will simply inform you that they already got your documents and to wait for the outcome of their evaluation and that you will get a letter as soon as you're approved. my evaluator told me it could take from a couple of months to a year for applications to get processed as they have numerous influx of applicants.
hi...our case is very similar. i had to go through a needle just to get a graduation certificate from my school as well as they had never issued such a document before. now i am just wondering, from the day you completed your documents and received by nbv, how long did it take for them to issue you a letter of approval? hope to hear from you soon. thanks in advance.
Wow Haoyin! Thanks for all the info! You have answered one of a thousand questions I have in mind, as to if other Boards have no deadline as compared to QNC. I have applied to NSW and I'm still waiting for their assessment. But I personally rang them because I was worried also about the National Registration. And they have the same response (more or less) like what NBV told you, that as of now, it's still business as usual for them and that they are still accepting overseas applicants. At first I was wondering if the lady that I talked to just didn't know the answer or what. But based on your post it seems that only QNC is implementing this deadline.
You kinda remind me of one poster here, Aelith? Hahaha I'm sure other posters here remember her and miss her (him or her?) too. But seeing your long and very informative post made me think of her. Thank you for all the info that you've shared. Although I myself haven't applied to NBV I'm sure majority of those active in this thread now will benefit from your helpful posts. Keep it up and God bless!
Thanks for the kind words.
I am really lazy posting that's why I haven't posted before. However, thinking that I personally encountered different problems while applying, I just wanted to share some info as to help others. I mean if ever I am able to help then it's also these "others" that I am going to be with if ever I finally get to start my program in Aus. And I believe in good karma. You help others, then somehow you get help yourself when you need it. Plus I just want more nurses to take advantage of this while it's not yet that difficult to go to Aus. I'm sure in a matter of a year or so, it will get harder and harder and they will require more stuff like work experience same with how other countries are right now.
Cheers!

thanks haoyin for your posts... i think as all of us may agree, the licensing system of overseas nurses after the july 2010 national registration will be primarily via bridging program, hence, the unique licensing system of queensland will not be followed.. for this same reason, nbv and other nursing boards doing bridging program are just continuing their processing of application, unlike the qnc..

By the way, I could also say that the delay where mostly from NBV asking for more docs and revisions. So if you have more or less completed all the necessary docs that will satisfy your evaluator and if what you submitted doesn't require much revisions, then your application will get approved faster.
