New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Hi

I guess no one likes my proposal of doing a meet up. Anyway, I'm still waiting as well for any updates. I hope I'll get some news by next week. What do you guys mean by batchmates? You mean you all applied together at almost same dates? Or you are all applying for the same University?

For those of you who has talked with your case managers what did they tell you?

Thanks

Guys, just to be sure, you probably need to email all BP providers because most of them are not offering them anymore. I'm not even sure if Univeristy of Ballarat is also offering it currently. the lists are licensed and registered BP providers but they are not necessarily offering the courses now.

What i know is ETEA, Deakin and La Trobe...

update on La Trobe's IRON:

it's their 2nd week of clinical placement in the hospital. i hope the class will be able to do an early exit end of Feb after 200 hrs of clinical placement.

Hi Chabeli,

Thanks a lot for the update, but can you please clear out something regarding your message. Do you mean that Deakin, LaTrobe and ETEA are still offering the program or they are the ones that you know who stopped offering the program? Are the schools you mentioned who stopped offering the BP due to the upcoming National Registration?

How are you guys doing in your BP program? Is it easy or are they making it really difficult?

Thanks so much.

Cheers!

@chabeli: i wish they'll have the early exit! :) hows the weather? nice to hear from you again!

@haoyin i believe chabeli mentioned the institutions still providing the BP course.

chabeli's right! some approved educ. providers have stopped offering their BP course... for what reason? one of which may be the transition to national registration.

NewMac, Yeah I was hoping that chabeli meant that as well. Just clarifying. hehe. Got scared a bit with that.

Tnx

those three are the institutions that i'm sure are still offering the bp.. the others i think are accredited but are not getting enough class size and keeps cancelling their classes because some are a bit too far while the others are really requiring experience... im not sure...

bp is not that hard... it's really more of learning the australian healthcare, updating your knowledge and then applying it during the clinical placements.. it's not like a competency course where they assess your competency.. it's bridging you to the australian health care system thus, more of orientation and learning. of course they will assess your competency based on what you learned and not what you know already back home... i hope you get what i mean... it's not something to be anxious about because it is unlike nclex or other tests that evaluates whether you know this or not... here, they teach you.. so you learn instead of proving that you know :)

@ newmac: whether is warm today at 35 degrees.. dry heat... :)

well, one thing i know for sure... those were warm words again from chabeli. :p

hi chabeli you have mentioned about the national registration....

do you have any idea about it? like the requirements..Thank you

@chabeli: Thank you very much. I'm relieved because I don't have work experience here and also it has been awhile after passing the boards so I have already forgotten a lot of things. It's nice to know that it won't be tough. I wish you all the best.

Hi, I just want to ask you guys...

About applying to QNC...

Just to clarify, so if I just indicate that I don't have any work experience, that will be fine? I mean, it will not be taken against my application? Because when I read the requirements checklist, the post-registration experience is one of the requirements.. Uhm, could you please enlighten me on that part?

And also, about the Statutory Declaration.. Do I need to submit one even though I am just the only one whom the Queensland Nursing Council can communicate with with regards to my application?

Thank you so much.

Hi there. Are you still planning on applying for QNC? Haven't you read in the previous posts that they have implemented a strict deadline? I don't think they're accepting applicants anymore...

A lot of people have applied to QNC because as of last year post-registration experience IS NOT A REQUIREMENT. What's required is proof that you've had experience IF you've had one.

I don't know if they have changed or revised the application form but the statutory declaration attached to or included in the application form is of course required. It has nothing to do with the fact that you're the only one who's gonna communicate with them regarding your application. I suggest you read through this thread. I know it 's quite a task but really, everything you need to know about QNC has been discussed here already. Just skim through posts until you reach those posted sometime May-October 2009 (If i remember right...). At least you'll narrow it down to those only pertaining to QNC
