New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Aelith, do you have any idea what will be the next step to follow if your lecturer gave you a failing grade in one of the modules?

Hi there. I'm not Aelith hehehe but I'm just curious. Are you taking one of the modules of CQU? I think the best person to ask that is the Program Coordinator herself. Try asking for an appeal or something. Because they're the only ones who can really assess your performance with the modules. Honestly this is the first time I've heard of someone actually doing the modules. Well good for you, at least you've had sufficient time. As for me well it's a make or break situation because I wont be allowed to do the modules if ever I fail any part as I'll be taking the exam next month already. Anyway I hope some poster out there can help you out and actually answer your question because I understand that we (QNC applicants) are all pressed for time and of course we wanna complete everything the soonest possible time. Anyways, good luck and God bless on your application! :)

But I really suggest you give the Program Coordinator a ring...

You're taking the exam on march right? Then it is still feasible coz you're required to pass at least 3 out of 4 modules to proceed with the assessment. :)

Hi, just wondering, is it possible for us nurses to apply for PR, through general skilled migration, even if we have not undergone bridging yet? I tried to check the ANMC website and I got a little confused because there are two options given, the full assessment (for those not yet registered in australia as a nurse) and the modified assessment (for those already registered in australia)...so, we can apply for full assessment? or did I get it wrong? hmmmm:idea:

Thanks chocokat79. I already did email the program coordinator and requested for resubmission of the assignment, but it is really agonizing waiting for his reply. I really pray that he grants me my request because I failed part of the challenge test A only by 1 point, 11/15. Its really hard to get an 80% passing mark but I really wish you well.

Guys, I have a question. What's the difference between 3-6 months bridging course and 1 year bridging course?

HI, most of the uni are offering 3-4 months bridging course as far as i know. i just received an email from deakin uni regarding their program..i'm doing this for my niece who recently passed the NLE in the phils and wanting to come here in melbourne...i have chosen deakin for her because i finished my nursing degree there..anyways, the 1 year degree are mostly for nurses from china since they are doing english course in preparation for OET or IELTS but i could be wrong...I think some uni are aslo offering english course for those people who's IELTS is below 7. Again, its just my own interpretation as what i've read from deakin website regarding the pre registration course/bridging course...check www.deakin.edu.au. :):lol2:

Hi there,

full assessment are for overseas trained nurses who are not permanent or australian citizen. So no you can't apply for migration until you're deemed qualified to register as a nurse in australia. which means you need to be assessed by NBV, passed the IELTS and completed your bridging course or competency based practice..hope this helps..:)

From what I understand about the skilled migration is that it applies to architects/engineers/etc in which your skills are already accepted in Australia without the need for competence exams or equivalent to such.

Since nurses overseas doesn't guarantee that you are already capable according to Australian standards and you are not yet familiar with their health laws/etc... you need to undergo bridging programs to qualify to their standards therefore cannot apply for skilled migration.

welcome to the nursing and midwifery board of australia website

i just checked this website: http://www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au/ where it says:

from 1 july 2010 practitioners of the nursing and midwifery professions across australia will have to meet the same requirements to be registered and their registration will be recognised in all states and territories. the board was established under the health practitioner regulation (administrative arrangements) act, 2009. from 1 july 2010 the board will operate with its full range of functions under the health practitioner regulation national law (the national law) where adopted in a jurisdiction.

what requirements? im still searching...

hello,

you cant find it yet coz they are still finalizing the new rules, but you can find the draft proposals in that same website..

he

hello,

yes you can apply PR even prior registration but you will have to go through "full assessment" with ANMC.. if approved then you apply for PR at DIAC and if approved and you go to Aus then you will apply at nursing board for license via bridging program..

on the other hand, for most who will go to aus via student or short stay visa for their bridging program, they do not have to to go through ANMC, after bridging program and upon applying for 457 visa, still not required to go through ANMC, but once you/they apply for PR either via ENS or RSS or gen. skilled then that's the time you/they have to apply at ANMC for "modified assessment" which would be a lot much easier because you/they have already an aus. nursing license.

i hope you see the difference...

good luck to us...

Thank you so much physteac.... I was really confused because my former schoolmate is also planning to study for a bridging course and she said that it will be a one year bridging course because she doesn't have hospital experience like me. Then I mentioned the 3-4 months bridging course and she said that maybe it is only for "certificate" and the one year course is for "diploma". Anyway, thanks for the reply. I'm going to share these infos to her too.

Hey guys, I hope someone can answer me..

Do you guys know if overseas applicants like us who were assessed as ENROLLED NURSES are also eligible to apply for a WORK VISA/PERMIT assuming of course we've passed the BP an employer is willing to sponsor us?

This got me thinking. Coz under the general skilled migration scheme, Enrolled Nurses are not eligible for this since this occupation is not on the list. And it is also stated in the website of the department of immigration of AU. But I can't find any info as to whether Enrolled nurses who successfully finish the BP are allowed to apply for a work permit. What do you guys think?

Reason I'm asking is well... I was assessed as an Enrolled Nurse with medication Endorsement by QNC. So I was hesitant at first if I should go through with it. But I was worried that I might make the wrong decision if I let this opportunity pass so I went ahead and registered for the written exam. So now I am scouting the net for employers who sponsor overseas nurses. I have also used google AU in googling things when Im looking for information but so far all I see are for "Registered Nurses"...

I'm just worried that after all the effort and hardwork that I've gone through, I'll just find out that EENs aren't eligible to be sponsored for a work permit...
