Hi everyone, please help me.
I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.
Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.
That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.
However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.
I already have my bachelors degree here.
When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?
After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?
Thank you!
Hi there, full assessment are for overseas trained nurses who are not permanent or australian citizen. So no you can't apply for migration until you're deemed qualified to register as a nurse in australia. which means you need to be assessed by NBV, passed the IELTS and completed your bridging course or competency based practice..hope this helps..:)
thanks, physteac!!! that cleared my confusion...
Like my other batchmates here (newmac, reiken, to name a few), im still waiting for that much hoped-for NBV letter of positive assessment in order to commence with the bridging course...woohooo...go go go!!!:):)
hehello,
yes you can apply PR even prior registration but you will have to go through "full assessment" with ANMC.. if approved then you apply for PR at DIAC and if approved and you go to Aus then you will apply at nursing board for license via bridging program..
on the other hand, for most who will go to aus via student or short stay visa for their bridging program, they do not have to to go through ANMC, after bridging program and upon applying for 457 visa, still not required to go through ANMC, but once you/they apply for PR either via ENS or RSS or gen. skilled then that's the time you/they have to apply at ANMC for "modified assessment" which would be a lot much easier because you/they have already an aus. nursing license.
i hope you see the difference...
good luck to us...
yes I do, thanks, cioman94!
Thanks chocokat79. I already did email the program coordinator and requested for resubmission of the assignment, but it is really agonizing waiting for his reply. I really pray that he grants me my request because I failed part of the challenge test A only by 1 point, 11/15. Its really hard to get an 80% passing mark but I really wish you well.
In my opinion, the CAS will not fail you without a reasonable ground as they have the mandate to ensure that nurses who will practice in Australia are COMPETENT and of GOOD MORAL character. COMPETENCE is a learned attribute and comes out in time. You learn this theoretically and in clinical practice. GOOD MORAL is innate (well sometimes could be learned). If you breached University policies such as plagiarism and dishonesty, then I think that is a fair and square decision. A lecturer will not fail someone based on minor/little or correctable error. I think it's a case by case basis. You have all the right to appeal. And if you read the CAS website materials, failing a module would mean that you will be referred back to Nursing Council and I think the result could either be among the three: (1) You will not be registered and be banned forever; (2) you will be referred back and do University education; (3) you will be allowed to reapply after sometime. It's all up to the Nursing Council. Best of luck.

I failed the assignment because I was told that I did not completely answer the question being asked and lacked further discussions...
Hey guys, I hope someone can answer me..Do you guys know if overseas applicants like us who were assessed as ENROLLED NURSES are also eligible to apply for a WORK VISA/PERMIT assuming of course we've passed the BP an employer is willing to sponsor us?
This got me thinking. Coz under the general skilled migration scheme, Enrolled Nurses are not eligible for this since this occupation is not on the list. And it is also stated in the website of the department of immigration of AU. But I can't find any info as to whether Enrolled nurses who successfully finish the BP are allowed to apply for a work permit. What do you guys think?
Reason I'm asking is well... I was assessed as an Enrolled Nurse with medication Endorsement by QNC. So I was hesitant at first if I should go through with it. But I was worried that I might make the wrong decision if I let this opportunity pass so I went ahead and registered for the written exam. So now I am scouting the net for employers who sponsor overseas nurses. I have also used google AU in googling things when Im looking for information but so far all I see are for "Registered Nurses"...
I'm just worried that after all the effort and hardwork that I've gone through, I'll just find out that EENs aren't eligible to be sponsored for a work permit...
hello,
my opinion is that your initial findings based on your research is true, i.e. i doubt you will be given work permit or 457 visa as EEN as it is not part of the "list".. but i may be wrong in the sense that you may not be eligible for immigration but you may be eligible for 457 visa / work permit.. this reminds me of the previous pages of this thread about a manila based agency which "could" send you to Australia and "work" initially as EEN then afterwhich the employer will pay for your BP.. I had doubts on that scheme for the same reason that i have doubts that Oz grants work permit for EEN.. Just the same, i maybe wrong.. You may ask the thread member who raised that issue in the previous page...
good luck... i hope im wrong so that you will be able to go to australia.. im too is a 2nd courser but thru a 3-year nursing program.. i bet that you are in a 2-year nursing program which resulted to an assessment of EEN instead of RN..
pray, it helps...

Jsut to add, one of Chabeli's classmate applied for PR but was still asked by the ANMC to get a license first... because you get more points if you are registered :)
Found many helpful tips on this forum, thank you to all those who patiently answer queries. My question is for those who are gonna be taking BP in Victoria:
> are there uniforms for the clinical placement? (best to buy clothes and shoes in the phil.)
> am i required to bring my own bp apparatus, stethoscope, etc?
> what documents should i bring with me to australia? (should i bring my diploma and/or board certificate?)
> are they strict with vaccinations? (i do have complete vaccinations as a child but i have no hepA vaccine, i could take the first dose here but 2nd dose must not be earlier than six months and my course starts in april 2010, is it ok if i complete the rest in australia, or will clinical agents tell me to complete everything before the clinical placement)
Thank you and God Bless everyone
im sorry, were your questions already answered?
for questions 1-2, ask ryan09, he can answer it accurately..
documents to bring? for what? for identifications? depending on your BP school/provider, they would required certain documents on the day you visit their office there.. me, i would bring important documents like what you said than bring nothing at all...
Oz is generally strict on vaccines, but with regards to your specific question, the BP school/provider can answer it accurately, better contact them..
good luck to your endeavors..
hi chabeli you have mentioned about the national registration....do you have any idea about it? like the requirements..Thank you
starting july 01, 2010 there will only be one nursing board in australia, but it will have different branch offices in key cities.. consequently, there will be one set of policies and regulation in the whole australia, and if you obtain a nursing license then you are allowed to practice in the whole australia (unlike now whereby your license is only good in one state/territory unless you endorse/have it recognized in another state/territory)..
requirements are not yet finalized, but you can read the draft policies on the website..
good luck..

yes you have to wear a uniform in most cases its white top and navy blue pants...some of my classmates bought their uniforms in the philippines.
no need for you to bring bp app, steth etc...its all provided, but it wont be yours, they will only provide it for the purpose of return demontrations...
bring the same documents that you have submitted to the NBV
in most cases, institutions will ask you to have these vaccinations: hep a,b,c(of course theres no vaccine for hep c yet),mmr, meningo, swine flu, dpt, polio (these are deakin requirements)...vaccinations can be done in australia..i would suggest for you to just have your hep a vaccination in australia...:)in most institutions, they are offering screening and vaccinations to its students just like deakin university.
*note: you need to check it with your BP provider, as some of the requirements may differ in each institution..:)

Hi chocokat, are you a second courser?
