Hi everyone, please help me.
I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.
Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.
That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.
However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.
I already have my bachelors degree here.
When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?
After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?
Thank you!
thanks haoyin for your posts... i think as all of us may agree, the licensing system of overseas nurses after the july 2010 national registration will be primarily via bridging program, hence, the unique licensing system of Queensland will not be followed.. for this same reason, NBV and other nursing boards doing bridging program are just continuing their processing of application, unlike the QNC..
Yes I think so too cioman94. I think I also read somewhere (or was it indicated in their letter to me?) that one reason why QNC has a deadline is because CQU's contract with QNC is also expiring on June or July of this year. Whereas The College of Nursing in NSW still has intakes till September of this year so I guess their contract or agreement with NMB-NSW is still "good" till October or November of this year. I just have no idea if The College of Nursing in NSW will still be their BP provider in 2011. Hopefully I can still make it to the last intake for the year.
So to those planning on going to AU I reckon the best thing to do now is to apply for the BPs while there's still time. Who knows what rules will they implement if overseas nurses like us will apply AFTER July? Higher fees? Higher IELTS band scores?
chocokat79: Higher IELTS band scores?? i hope that will never happen!! 7 is hard to get already! seriously! while i dont know the standard of IELTS in india and other asian countries (with a big question mark:confused:) but so far here in this cruel country (crabby and money go together) its totally
!!! your own fellow countrymen makes it harder for u to reach your dream (i wish there are crab icons to suit them) those examiners should rot
if i had extra money i would want to take IELTS in other countries like korea japan or china maybe LOL!!!
i wonder if my speaking and writing would make it to a score of 9! :yeah:oh sorry for ranting by the way
I highly doubt that they would increase the IELTS scores though since all 7 is already pretty hard for most. Well, the only thing that they can change is perhaps the overall bandscore increasing to 7.5 or 8 instead of just getting all 7 in the 4 sub tests. But this is already too much. So perhaps this won't happen anytime soon.
I forgot to mention before from my previous post that most delays would also be due to... how do i put it... Hmm... Okay, just for example purposes let us say I was the evaluator. I have piles and piles of application in front of my desk. So what I do is that I open one folder then I browse on it. If I notice one thing that's lacking or that doesn't satisfy me, then I immediately ask for further documents from you without even checking what else is wrong. So in your case you try to give me what I am asking from you at the soonest possible time. This would cause delay and also risk for lost documents while in transit or your evaluator won't get it because it was misplaced due to the many pending paper works. Okay let's say I (as your evaluator) got your document, but do I assess your application right away just because you have already submitted what I was asking for? You get to queue again until I finish the rest and get to yours. So eventually I get back to your folder... I assess and after looking, I found something wrong again, then I ask again another document and we're back to square one. What more is that, I ask something that was already been submitted just because I only browsed through your file without checking meticulously if you had already submitted what I was asking for. So the poor applicant would have no choice but to submit again what is being asked. We have to consider that they are asking a lot of documents from us and also the fact that different schools have different forms of RLE and Transcript, etc... So sometimes due to the many applications that they are checking, they fail to see that what they are asking is already in front of them.
I know this for a fact because this happened to me. Like for example, they need a minor revision in one form for instance. They ask me to redo it, then later on they ask me to redo the same form because there's another error on the next line. So meaning to say, they don't check everything at once before they ask you to revise something. What they do is that, they read and once they find an error, they wouldn't bother checking the rest and just simply ask you to revise before continuing to check for more problems. And after they are already satisfied with that one form, that's the time that they check for your other documents and then ask again for further stuff. If only they will check everything and ask for everything in one go. But apparently they don't!
Also, I mentioned from my previous posting that I get to email my evaluator. Some of you may have wondered how I was able to do so when it is specifically implied in the first email that you will get from NBV or perhaps told to you when you called them that emailing is not allowed. Well, in my case, what happened was, it was already Christmas and nearing New Year. So at that time I tried to call my evaluator again but as usual the answering machine was the one who greeted me. So what I did was I greeted my evaluator a Merry Christmas and a Happy new year and wished her and her family to be having a wonderful time during that yuletide season and then I told her I tried calling her already a lot of times but I can't reach her so I left my email address also in the voice box and told her any update would be great. Maybe she was surprised that an applicant would call just to greet her so she emailed me back Merry Christmas and asked about my work experience, instead of asking me to submit a statutory declaration. Hehe... :)
So again. For those of you who will be applying or has pending applications. Don't fret too much. It really is like this. Some may be lucky depending on your evaluator. But patience... You don't even know what else I had to go through just to get to follow up my application. My only advice as a reiteration would be to make sure you have all the necessary documents at hand and to read what else was asked from other people who applied so you can get a head start and get those documents also. Make sure also that if ever you call NBV, make it a point to be very very courteous and don't stutter as if you are afraid or unsure. Be relaxed and confident but well mannered, and please try to speak English fluently and clearly as not to annoy them, although I would say that they are very kind when you speak to them. Still, you have to prevent your evaluator from getting annoyed and also remember they might be assessing how conversant you are with the English language. If they tell you that "we got your docs and just wait for further assessment", be contented with that and don't pester your evaluator.
Hope I was able to help.
Also, I was wondering if ever you guys would like to do a meet up or something wherein future applicants or those who have pending applications can share thoughts and experiences with one another. It will also be one way for us to get to know each other for all you know we will be on the same flight and headed towards the same institution when we're already in Aus.
Well, Cheers! I just hope that I am able to contribute something of worth here in this forum.
And sorry for another long post.
Hi. I'm new here. I was reading through the thread. And whoa, very informative. Thanks so much.
I do have some questions though..
I'm here in Brisbane, on a Student Visa. I'm studying Community Welfare. And now Just found about Bridging Course. I actually checked QNC website, and I saw I need to submit certain requirements
Saka which do you recommend, Queensland to take Bridging Course or somewhere else? Is it better there??
Thanks so much for your response. Appreciate it.

I do have some questions though..
Should the experience be in a hospital setting? Because I only worked in a private clinic for children for 2 years.. Will that experience be credited as well?
And do you recommend applying in Queensland to take Bridging Course or somewhere else? Because I noticed that a lot of you applied in NSW? Is it better there??
Thanks so much for your response. Appreciate it.
Hi Ladygubs,
Welcome to the forums. I am also just newly registered here. Anyway, regarding your questions, I guess if you do some more back reading then I think some of these have already been clarified.
As for your work experience, I guess if you can get enough proof or evidence that you have worked as a nurse for 2 years even if it was only in a private clinic then it "might" be accepted. However, with the bridging programs, you don't necessarily need work experience that's why you will have to undergo theory classes and clinical placements for you to be trained and be competent according to their nursing standards.
About where it is better to apply would definitely be your own call. What part of Australia do you want to live in? Do you have family/friends/relatives where you can stay at to lessen your costs? Since you mentioned that you are already in Brisbane, then you are already familiar with the place and probably already settled with a good place to live in. So your better option is QNC or any place near. It's really up to you. I guess you should back read a bit more in the previous threads so you get more ideas from other people.
Good luck.
Hi Haoyin,
Thanks for your response.
Just to clarify, so if I just indicate that I don't have any work experience, that will be fine? I mean, it will not be taken against my application? Because when I read the requirements checklist, the post-registration experience is one of the requirements.. Uhm, could you please enlighten me on that part?
And also, about the Statutory Declaration.. Do I need to submit one even though I am just the only one whom the Queensland Nursing Council can communicate with with regards to my application?
Thank you so much.
woah! see how a few days of absence from the cyber arena make... lo000ng posts, indeed...how are my batchmates?! [reiken, drednag and the rest?]
