New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Well..long story..I applied first in deakin last year for their january intake, I didnt make it to their deadline. Next is Latrobe, I got my acceptance letter and all, but I wasnt able to send and pay right away, thinking that the slot was already mine. So now, regarding deakin, they didnt accept my IELTS coz it will expire May 10, but when my auntie asked them in person, they said it will be ok as long as my ielts will not expire before the assessment. Anyways, so now they put me on waitlist till I can give my IELTS result in time. But, getting a slot and waiting for the results of my IELTS will take sometime, so I'm thinking I might not be able to get in. Next option again is Latrobe..(sigh)

well atleast you have your NBV letter, for what its worth. :)

Yeah..it's alright... at least i do already have pending applications for both univs. For the meantime, work work work..I need more experience..and more money..hehe..

Hello everyone! I'm already a registered nurse here in the Philippines but without experience.

Can I still enroll for a 3 months or 6 months bridging course in Australia? Please help.

Hello everyone! I'm already a registered nurse here in the Philippines but without experience.

Can I still enroll for a 3 months or 6 months bridging course in Australia? Please help.

my:twocents: : I think you can....it depends on the course provider...there are several universities which do not require experience...but first, apply to the appropriate nursing board council...you have several options, NBV (Victoria), NMBWA (Western Australia), QNC (Queensland), NSW (New South Wales)...and many others... good luck!!!:yeah:

Thanks drednag :). So does it mean, I can shorten my studies to 3-6 months bridging course to become an RN in Australia even if I don't have any experience, instead of enrolling to a one year or 2 year bridging course? Please enlighten me people.

Well, yeah..you can take the 3 month bridging course and be registered, but of course if you apply to hospitals afterwards, you'd have an edge if you have hosp experience. Just my two cents..

Ok, thanks desperado. :)

drednag..where are you planning to take the course? I hope to have many pinoy/pinay classmates!

How's everyone doing? NewMac and Reiken, any news?:uhoh3::):):)

Absolutely good here, bro! Nope, about to receive word from them yet.:anbd:... smileys, altogether now -:yawn::yawn:

On doing some follow up paperworks: Went to the school to request for a detailed course description of all the subjects I've taken along with the number of theoretical and clinical hours to complement and reinforce my transcript of records which I already sent to NBV that was affixed in my application. Well, that's in anticipation of additional documentations that they may ask me to furnish should they ask for one... keeping it handy, just in case; Went to PRC to renew my license which is due to expire this year.

On a personal note: To keep me preoccupied, I've been on intense physical training in anticipation of summer... hehehe :hlk: Also been doing some book reading whenever I have spare time.

It seems there are a growing number of people here who like, us, are just on lingering mode for that much-anticipated letter from NBV (except for desperado16 as he already had his a long time ago). That's good! So, aside from us - ME (reiken), drednag, NewMac, countmein, desperado16, who else are Victoria-bound? I hope we'll all be classmates... hehehe :D:lol2::D

just curious, im not being biased, ..... considering the ratio of males to females nurses, would you say that they would be glad to hire male nurses? i mean, we would have some slight "hiring" edge when we apply?

its just a ratio of male to female nurses in australia...meaning only few male australians are interested in nursing.

and it doesnt mean that male nurses will have a narrow chance of getting a job nor the other way around, as australia is experiencing scarcity of nurses and health care workers everyone is needed in the workforce and everyone is treated equally in terms of job application. in fact, the government of australia is encouraging retired nurses to do nursing again to fill in the vacancies in the hospitals and community, institutions are offering re-entry programs in conjunction with IRON for these nurses to assist them in re entering the nursing service.:)

@uh-huh, ill reply to your email later today...

reiken830 me me!! i am bound for NBV :) count me in.. hope we be classmates heheh! :yeah:

GOD BLESS to all of us! :heartbeat:redbeathe :heartbeat
