New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

@cioman94: thanks for the feedback I really appreciate it, You have given me a new perspective about the situation.I will consult with Allied regarding the new national registration scheme that Aus. will be implementing this july and how it will in any way affect my upcoming application. BTW guys, I just want to make it clear, the 200k "supposed" placement fee is just a hearsay, a fellow applicant told me that info which he states is also from another applicant. Allied didn't told me that info personally, I hope the actual placement fee would be a little lower. Sir cioman94 the endorsed enrolled nurse status is only temporary after 3 months blue tongue will assist you to become RN if you meet the required standards, at least thats what they said :p hehehe. Regarding the aged care facility, yup no doubt about it, during the interview with Allied they have made it clear that during the early part of the candidate's employment the setting will be in an aged care facility and they have asked me if will it be ok since most of my nursing career has been in a busy environment at the ER. I told them I don't have any problems with it.I know I sound desperate, I'm really itching to go abroad the fastest way possible even if it means setting my pride aside and cleaning up other people's "mess" as long as the compensation is reasonable. Hopefully from there i can work my way up the foodchain. :D

Thanks for the feedback guys! This thread really helped me a lot, I hope the same goes for the others.

keep 'em coming I know a lot of people are constantly checking this thread hoping to find answers.

God Bless the Pinoy!!!! :yeah::cheers:

oks... pls clarify with them, what is your visa during the first 3 months as endorsed enrolled nurse status? i would be surprised it would be a "working" or so-called 457 visa because australia doesnt grant such visa to foreign enrolled nurses, otherwise many filipinos would have been going there working as enrolled nurse, i for one would be there long ago if that is the case.. nway just make sure to clarify things up and kindly share it with us here..

goodluck...

@cioman94: Yes sir it is a 457 subclass visa that they will be offering, the one that grants eligibility for PR after a year of work in Australia. Is it not possible for foreign enrolled nurses to gain such visa? uh oh.. i smell something fishy here hehehe...:uhoh3: during the orientation the representative from Blue Tongue, told us that, but he said that because of their good track record there in australia the government there is willing to issue 457 visas to their successful candidates. I think I need to dig deeper on this. Thanks a lot sir cioman94, if you are living near manila you could check out Allied's office at 2nd floor VIP building in front of the US embassy its near ermita and ask personally or better yet check the link http://www.workabroad.ph/report_job_listing.php?ajid=313525 who knows if this thing is really legit it could be our big break.

I'll keep everyone posted regarding this one...

this is so funny...:rotfl:

i called NBV again today and assured that the person who will entertain me will be different from the one yesterday. and this is the reply i got : "No changes yet since you called yesterday." I paused for five seconds and asked her if she was the one i spoke with yesterday -as i fully remember the lady's name as something else. and she said: "No, we put notes everytime an applicant calls." :p [for some reason i felt embarrased] :( :p

Makes me wonder why do they need to put note everytime an applicant calls. [Quality Assurance?] I hope it doesnt have any implications whatsoever.:confused::confused: ok time to sleep..... zzzzzzzzzzz......

hehehe, getting paranoid by the minute? :D:jester: i think some companies are like that, they record calls, just like credit card companies, all calls going through them are recorded. don't worry, i dont think that will have any unfavorable implication...it just shows you are very interested, as we all are, in being registered with nbv...:up::up:

Hi there to all of you! I just want to ask if the acknowledgment letter is sent through email or post mail? thanks a lot!

By the way, i'm referring to my application at QNC.. thanks!

yeah i hope so...

i hope they dont get annoyed and just use my documents to **** their *****. :p

theres nothing to be embarrased with..;)

its a normal protocol just like in a call centre, they need to post a note in every phone call/enquiry youve made, in doing such way your case can easily be traced if so happened that there will be someone else who can handle your call in the future. or if youve got concerns in the future, they can easily track the root of your concern by reading your previous interactions with the NBV..:)

update: im always tired every single day...BP is tiring and challenging...of course full of fun...

good luck my fellow nurses...:)

I hope I can be as lucky as you guys.... Next week, I'll be getting the RLE Breakdown (theoretical and clinical hours specified) have it certified at a Public Notary and send it through fedex with my other requirements. A few months ago, I lost my passion in pursuing my dreams in going to Australia for the bridge course. My father changed his mind in helping me finance all I need, especially with the tuition... :crying2: But just this month my husband and I talked and decided that we'll find a way on our own to finance it. This thread has been so uplifting.... Honestly, I've read it from the beginning... :clown: I hope you will all continue to enlighten us who reads through.. by updating us of how you are doing during the bridge course and even after the bridge course.... Thank you again!!!

Aelith....hello

I want to ask if you have any info of a course provider in WA? I got the invitation from NMBWA to do the CAP course for my registration and currently looking for a school to do the bridging course. I tried all the course provider on the list that the board gave me but their school fees are just way to much for my budget...$10,000-12,000AUD. There is one provider that is cheap but they have a long cue of students to accommodate.

I hope you could help me find one....

thanks....God bless

Hi, Gab... while Im not Aelith, Id like to give my :twocents: worth:

First off, congratulations on getting your NMBWA letter..how long did you wait fo it?

Anyway, I think the NMBWA provides for a list of their accredited course providers. So far, Royal Perth Hospital and Hollywood Hospital which have the lowest fees no longer have 2010 intakes. RPH has a waitlist, though. What's left are Murdoch (I think) and Curtin where the bridging course takes 2 semesters, if Im not mistaken. There is the Victoria College of Health and Nursing, too.

Try to email the course providers in the NMBWA list.

Good luck and keep us posted!!:up::up:
