New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Yup. Tuberculin test first..Any doctor will do as long as there is evidence in writing that you're vaccinated. The march deadline is for sem 1 only. Don't worry too much. Hope to see you in Curtin soon :)

Hi ArmiRN. I would like to talk to you about the bridging program for this feb 2010. Please send me your e-mail add. Thanks.

Hi countmein,

Unfortunately, Ramsey Health won't be running an IRON program in 2010. I inquired to them recently. Regarding NBV, were you able to receive an acknowledgement letter from them first or just the letter asking for additional info? Thanks.

No acknowledgement letter ...just the letter asking for the additional info.

hey guys ... i'm just wondering here how come NBV doesn't seem affected with the natl registration coming up while QNC had to make a cutoff for the bridging prog ... can anyone enlighten me pls?

tnx in advance :confused::confused:

hello,

the licensing of foreign RN based on the upcoming new policies of national registration is via BP that Perth, NSW, and Melbourne is doing, and not that "CAS" way that Queensland is having.. That is why QNC has a cut-off prior to July 01, 2010 while NBV does not have because NBV is doing BP not CAS..

good luck to all..

By the way guys, Allied International is a local recruitment agency whereas Blue tongue will be your prospect employer if ever you become successful, Blue tongue will provide everything free of charge including airfare to Aus. if you succeed. the "alleged" 200k placement will be for Allied not for Blue Tongue.

:rckn:

hello,

thanks for sharing info about Allied International...

Allied is legitimate, its with POEA, no probs..

200k is a bit expensive... and with regards to your question whether RN in Aus earns that much? of course, yes.. actually you would earn more than 2 million pesos in a year which will be higher depending on the forex and your overtime work...

i suggest you better wait for the new policies on national registration this july 2010, instead of giving out 200k where you will be hired initially as a enrolled nurse instead of as RN..

if you can afford to 300k, then used that 300k to get RN license instead of EN license..

good luck to you, think twice and pray (i mean literally pray at the altar) before you decide..

by the way, Blue Tongue is not really your direct employer, it is in itself an australian agency, meaning, you will work for another hospital or nursing home.. i bet it would be a nursing home..

@cioman94: thanks for the feedback I really appreciate it, You have given me a new perspective about the situation.I will consult with Allied regarding the new national registration scheme that Aus. will be implementing this july and how it will in any way affect my upcoming application. BTW guys, I just want to make it clear, the 200k "supposed" placement fee is just a hearsay, a fellow applicant told me that info which he states is also from another applicant. Allied didn't told me that info personally, I hope the actual placement fee would be a little lower. Sir cioman94 the endorsed enrolled nurse status is only temporary after 3 months blue tongue will assist you to become RN if you meet the required standards, at least thats what they said :p hehehe. Regarding the aged care facility, yup no doubt about it, during the interview with Allied they have made it clear that during the early part of the candidate's employment the setting will be in an aged care facility and they have asked me if will it be ok since most of my nursing career has been in a busy environment at the ER. I told them I don't have any problems with it.I know I sound desperate, I'm really itching to go abroad the fastest way possible even if it means setting my pride aside and cleaning up other people's "mess" as long as the compensation is reasonable. Hopefully from there i can work my way up the foodchain. :D

Thanks for the feedback guys! This thread really helped me a lot, I hope the same goes for the others.

keep 'em coming I know a lot of people are constantly checking this thread hoping to find answers.

God Bless the Pinoy!!!! :yeah::cheers:

ielts reults received. received on jan 4. recognized by the system jan 13. no case manager yet. :( any news about the national registration? til now NBV is clueless. :p

@NewMac Was wondering what it means when it is recognized by the system ? Where do you get your information or who do call to ask about that status ? Thank you

Definition of Terms:)

Received: as per the tracking system of the courier [fedex] and validated by NBV; when it arrives the "BIG" mailroom

Recognized by the NBV system: when it leaves the "BIG" mailroom and entered into the NBV system

I get these information by calling them. Each time, I try to call them twice to validate what the first one said.

If you take the time to read this thread you should get some idea on what to do. Also be aware that there are changes occurring within Australia with their nursing governing body and becoming more national that state.
