New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Hello everyone,i'm still undecided if i'll lodge my application in queensland, i'm still interested to take Bridging Program in Victoria or NSW instead of CAS ,what i do not know is how much is the Bridging Program? which university or college in Victoria or NSW is the cheapest.(From the previous post, expenses will range from 10-12 AUS Dollars).. Thanks.

When did he have his BP in Perth ? Did he send his transcript on his first course ?

He's just started his BP a few days back. I think he sent all TORs.

NSW's bridging program is conducted by The College of Nursing in Burwood only. Currently, the fee is 10k AUD. As for Victoria, there are a number of BP providers and you can check the updated list in the NBV website - just google it. The BP fees in VIC varies and could range from 5k - 10k++ AUD.

Yupyup. DOH. :)

Whats DOH ?

another question..after the CAS and all the registrations and exams..what level of a nurse is one considered? Do we, upon passing all the required exams become a Division 1 nurse or some thing else?

I'm not 100% sure about this, but from what I've gathered, for new graduates with Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree; without work experience, it will be Level 1 Grade 2..for those who finished with Diploma only in Nursing, newly grad with no experience it would be Level 1 Grade 1.

hi! just found this site yesterday. i am happy that i found you guys.

i am a staff nurse here in egypt for eight months now. before i left the philippines, i applied as division one nurse in victoria. upon completing other requirements months after, i declared my work experience here but i had to send my registration details here in egypt. unfortunately, the hospital where i work for wont release the document for fear of leaving them and so i was stuck with my application.

now, i am planning to apply in new south wales or wherever it will be smooth to begin with. how do i start in new south wales? shall i apply as enrolled nurse? it is because i cannot find the bridging program in their website. how about in queensland? please help me.

thank you so much

Actually, Division 1 is RN and Div 2 is EN if I remember correctly. The grades and levels would depend on which state you will be working at. Each state has their own career ladders and varies a lot. For someone without experience, you will fall on the first level for Div 1 nurses category. Each year you should be able to get small increments in the salary. In actuality, grade is the main division for salaries (e.g. Grade 1 is AIN, Grade 2 is EN, etc.), which is further divided into levels/paypoints.

For example, in NSW there are 8 levels for RN Grade (without specialties) and for QLD, there are 7 only. Another example for a RN w/o exp is Grade 5 Level 1 (Qld).

hello, i hope i understand your situation right..

1) whether you will apply in queensland or new southwales or wherever, if you will disclose your nursing work experience in eqypt then definitely you will be required to submit pertinent papers for that just like what happened to your application in Victoria..

2) do not apply as an enrolled nurse, because you are eligible as a registered nurse..

3) Bridging program for New Southwales, search the website: College of Burwood Australia Nursing.. google will be glad to help you..

4) Queensland: read their website for their simple instructions and requirements: use google search: Queensland Nursing Council... again google will be glad to give the website...

hope that helps... i suggest you read the website first then ask clarification from thread members, we all would be glad to help as we did since last year this thread was made...

good luck, be patient..

thank you so much cioman94. i am planning not to declare my work experience so as not to complicate the situation.

thank you again, i will just ask clarification after i have finished reading the sites that you gave

hi i would just like to ask the ff to those who submitted their QLD application :

1) Are they still accepting applicants without experience? Or their policy have changed?

2) For those who sent their application have you gotten any acknowledgment letter from QLD recently? how long was the wait?

3) In your opinion is it a guarantee to apply in QLD? or there is a chance that your application will be "gone with the wind"?

4) And lastly, how is one selected to take the CAS program? the modules are just expensive. If i will be selected to take the modules i don't think i will push thru with my application:(

thank you very much to those who will reply!

GOD BLESS YOU and WISH YOU LUCK
