Hi everyone, please help me.
I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.
Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.
That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.
However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.
I already have my bachelors degree here.
When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?
After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?
Thank you!
congrats too
Hello Branyan:
1) In the near future, please share to us the important Phil. government requirements for you to comply relative to your Australian employment thru direct employment... Example, you will need a COE which you should get from POEA.. Immigration officials in NAIA will require that, otherwise they will not allow you to travel (even if you have the working visa).. thanks advance..
To everybody:
2) Forgive my antero amnesia, question: QNC have no problems accepting 2nd coursers? right? i mean there are already 2nd coursers who are applying now and who were already approved?
Thank you..
I am proud and happy for you. Keep it up . You are an encouragement.:clphnds::clphnds::clphnds::ancong!:
just got my PRC license verification this week.. it took 3 months.. but as nursemavi suggested, better get the "cert. of good standing", its fast, super fast kasi its signed by the local PRC officer..
good luck and hello..
you did not help a "little bit".... you helped a lot! :):):)glad i helped you a lot
thank you very much for shedding light on that matter...
i think i'd still go with the challenge test and take the education module if in case i fail. anyway aelith, would you mind if i clarify some other things especially on the visa part?
1) as stated on the link you gave me,,, visa 457 is only for temporary business (long stay) and not for permanent residency and immigration purposes... just to clarify,,, i can convert that to a permanent residency type of visa after i have 2 years of experience, correct? (what type of visa can i convert it to?) coz i really intend to stay in oz for a very long time and dream of becoming a citizen. so visa 457 is a possible pathway for that dream of mine? hehe!
yes. visa 457 is a temporary business (long stay) visa. you can apply for a permanent resident status once you have complied with the requirements. there are several pr visas you can apply and would depend on whether you would opt for a sponsored or an independent pr visa.
the skilled migration program of australia is based on a point system. it means that you would only have to reach the minimum required points for your application to be successful. however, there may be other specific requirements apart from the points that you would need to comply with. a skilled permanent/resident visa status would require you to have experience. this experience is waived for those who studied in australia for at least 2 years and have nominated a job that is in the skilled occupations list or more commonly referred as sol.
the following are links for the different types of pr visas you can apply for and the sol:
http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/visa-options-inside.htm
http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1121i.pdf
if you need more information or explanation for those visas, you can just ask me again and i'll try my best to explain everything i know.
2) i see your point about the gnp, and that would indeed be a boost. question though,,, they prioritize oz grads, but i can still avail of that but it will be a bit harder for me to get a spot? or do i still have to have 2 years work experience before i can have a gnp? am i elligible for a gnp if i have a visa 457?
yes. the gnp program is available for overseas grads. you can try and apply for a place; however, i have read that even aussie grads are running out of places in the said program. getting in the gnp is competitive and before you are offered a place, they would interview you. this gnp also has 2 entries in a year only - with majority of the facilities offering 1 entry only.
gnp will serve as the first job experience for the aussie grads so prior experience is not required for one to enter in the said program.
if you already have a 457 visa, then it would be safe to assume that you already have an employer. one cannot apply for a 457 visa independently or simply to say without any employer sponsoring you for it. so, if you hold a 457 visa, you are only allowed to work for the employer who sponsored and no one else.
also, if one of the facilities do offer you a place in the gnp, most probably they wouldn't sponsor you a visa - not true for all, but with regards to several hospitals i've talked to, you would have to have a valid visa because they won't provide it for you. it would be good to check with the facilities & hospitals who have gnp if they are willing to sponsor you or not.
sorry for the "interview" hehe! :rcgtku:
hope i did give you the answer you needed.

i will try to find out more about this immig. requirement but from what i gathered there's no problem even if you were hired on a direct basis, they or poea implemented a ruling last year that direct employers will need to pay a bond before the employee is allowed to leave the country but poea eventually reversed this ruling because of the complaints they received, i think what they want now is to just register yourself with them so that they'll have a record and this is not compulsory..i remember last year when a friend of mine went to oz on a 457 direct hire basis, he was told about this but the problem was it was already too late to get this done but he didn't encounter any problems when he left...but i'll try to find out if there's any new rules or orders regarding this.

yes qnc accepts assessment for 2nd coursers but the results can be varied or different as the assessment is done on a case to case basis. i know someone who is a second courser, have a bsn degree and a licensed rn here who was assessed to be registrable only as an en by qnc and that individual must pass first the en-cas program before gaining eligibility for registration.
thank you..
postscript: after a gruelling and a humbling 3 day medical-surgical mission in western visayas in the province of negros occidental..it was nice to be back in the comfort of your own home but what made it more pleasant was after opening an envelope that came from qnc containing my certificate of registration, annual license certificate, badge and a dvd resource pack for new registrants nice!!!!!!

Hello nurseboy and welcome to this thread :)
As for accommodation, I think CAS coordinators can help you with this but you can also try to do this on your own. There are many short stay hostels/inns available for you there.
With regards to the visa, I would always advise someone to apply for a visa that will give them extra time to stay in Australia. For example, if your BP is 3 months in duration and you apply for a 456 visa (which is good for exactly 3 months), then it would be too much of a hassle for you. So, basically, if your BP is 3 months or longer in duration, go for a student visa. If the BP is less than 3 months, 456/tourist visa is good enough.
