Anyone care to share any new and possibly 'fun' things you've seen or learned about lately??

I'll start. A pt under the age of 40 who had no risk factors for anything.. Ended up with a pneumothorax. Came in with CP.

I learned you can be eclamptic up to 12 weeks after delivery. A few times we have had moms in the neuro ICU weeks after delivery that were eclamptic.

I had a recent bladder ablation come in with bloody urine with large occluding blood clots needing a CBI. Very anxious and in a lot of pain, breathing hard and acting jittery. He had symptoms of bladder spasms duly reported to MD. Went to the floor and coded the next night for the acute MI no one noticed while treating the bladder problems.

Edited to add: darn autocorrect changed "occluding" to "concluding". fixed now.

Specializes in Hospice.

Um, the light bulb in his ceiling burned out and he was using the flashlight to see to change the bulb. He unfortunately was naked and accidentally fell on the flashlight at which point it inserted itself into his bum. Totally accidental.

Sounds like another patient who got out of the shower and sat down naked on the couch - right onto a foreign body....

Story of my life.

I've told it time and again, but the Grey Poupon jar on the kitchen chair and a nude man who forgot about it is my favorite.

One emergent colostomy later...
