Hello everyone,

Just thought I would introduce myself. My name is Mylissa, and I am currently in the CNA program preparing for a career as an RN. I stumbled on to this forum and found it very enlightening! I think the CNA training will really help me prepare for life as a nurse. I am so looking forward to it, as I have been in school doing prereqs for almost 2 years. At the college I attend, nursing students are chosen on a points system. If I score high enough on the NLN, as well as completed all point earning classes, the better chance you have at getting in. So, I will be working hard the next several months preparing for the exam.

Does anyone out there have any advice for me as far as the NLN exam is concerned, and also, tell me how you enjoy your career as a nurse?

Look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks, Mylissa:D

Hi Mylissa and welcome to the forum! I am not sure about your entrance exam. My entrance exam could not be studied for, just relax and don't rush. Becoming a CNA is an excellent way to "get your feet wet" in healthcare. Let the nurses you work with know you are in nursing school and usually they will involve you in more nursing responsibilites so you can learn more. Good luck!

I went to a community college that was first-come-first-in and never had to take that test. But good luck.

Hi Mylissa!

Where in Oregon are you from? (I live in Albany.) Don't stress too much about the NLN; I remember going through the exam and waiting for it to get harder, but it never did. If you've got basic high school math, science, and reading comprehension, you'll do fine!

Welcome to the board!!

Hi and welcome!

I'm like Tweety .. . .went to a community college and it was lottery so I never took the test either.

Good luck.

Welcome Mylissa!

Admission procedures are different everywhere for RN school. Where I took RN training, we had to take the ACT, fill out an application that included a paragraph on what we were entering nursing for (ugh); we also were placed based on our GPA's and how many pre-requisite classes we had finished. All these things were assigned a "point" on an points system and that was used to determine who was admitted each year. Usually they received about 150 applications and admitted around 30-35. I like this process better than a lottery system, which is what so many are using elsewhere. Weeds out those who are not serious or don't know what they are in for much more quickly.

I wish you luck. You are right , being a CNA is certainly helpful. Where I went to school, it was mandatory. So you are doing this the smart way. I hope you get what you are working so hard for and enjoy it! Come to us if you have questions, anytime! Again, welcome to you, Mylissa.

Welcome Mylissa! You will find alot of help and friendship here. Don't worry too much-just take it a day at a time and concentrate on learning all you can.Best of luck!
