Need examples of Shift Change...
Hello, I have noticed that some places tape report for oncoming nurses and others just give verbal report. If possible I would like to hear from some fellow nurses and their experiences with shift change. Thanks in advance for anyone's assistance.

Advice for a New Grad in Cardiac Care
Hello ChevyS, How are things going with the new job? So far I have only done orientation and have one more week of that before I go to the floor and start working. Still a bit nervous here also but hope that with time I will feel more confident. I have been doing a lot of studying. So hopefully that will help. Hope all is well your way. My last week of orientation is focused on getting to know their computer system. Then after I go to the floor to start work they will sign me up for ACLS and a EKG class. Look forward to hearing from you again soon.

New & Experienced RN's/Policies & Procedures????
Thanks so much for your reply. I just recently started work and being new I wasn't sure if it was just common not to give them out considering the large number of policies. Thanks Again.... :)

New & Experienced RN's/Policies & Procedures????
Just wanted to know from other's if when you begin at a new facility if they give you a copy of their policies and procedures manual? I know that they usually have a book of them on each floor but wanted to know if you received one when hired at a facility. Just curious....

tiniest micropreemie
Enjoyed reading this thread. I would really like to know how the preemie is doing. I am a preemie mom who gave birth to twins at 24 weeks. My daughter had nec and passed at 9 days. My son is now 5 will be 6 in April. He is doing so well. Not the typical 24 weeker thats for sure. Got to run for now but will visit back later tonight. :)

new member--RN and mom to a preemie
Growing up I always wanted to be a nurse. However, I never had the family support nor the encouragement. (I wanted to add that my hubby was very supportive) After trying to have children for over 8 years I finally (with the help of fertility drugs) became pregnant with twins. Then I started having complications. I ended up giving birth at 24 weeks gestation. My daughter was 1 lb. 1/4 oz. and my son was 1 lb. 4 oz. and they were both of course in NICU. At 9 days old my daughter passed away. That was a wake-up call for me. After my son was a year old I enrolled at the local college and decided that I would not give up. My goal was to become a NICU RN. During my clinicals I found other areas of nursing that I liked better and looking back on my experiences with NICU I just don't think I could work there. I hold the utmost respect for all NICU RN's and they were so wonderful to me and my family. They truly were such angels. Sorry for rambling. Maybe if you take a tour of a NICU and talk with some of the nurses working there might help. I know for me when I went through clinicals in college I had to work in NICU and it was a little emotional. That is when I knew it wasn't for me. Too many memories both good and bad. Good Luck on your decision. :)

Discarded babies
I too wonder how someone could do such a thing. Here in our state anyone can drop a baby off at the local hospital and not have to answer any questions. Is it that way in your state? Just last month there was a stillborn baby found in a dumpster here. And last year there was another baby found along side the road. My heart goes out to these children.. At least they will not have to grow up in this cruel world.
