Need titers and vaccinations with no insurance

Published

I have to get a hep b, Varicella and TB blood test. Maybe have to get a MMR unless by records are accepted. Any advice on how i can do this without spending too much. I called around and since i don't have insurance its close to $750.00. I can't afford this right now. Anyone else had to deal with this as well?

Did you talk to anyone at your school? my school had some kind of partnership with a clinic, and everything was discounted. You don't need insurance for the program? my school require you have it for clinical.

Try a Health Department in your city. Its usually much cheaper!

I 2nd this -- my insurance didn't cover either the titer draw nor the shots.. while I was price shopping I found that the local health department in my state offered the immunizations but did not draw titers.. so I repeated all the immunizations for less than 200$ and now have an "official" record of them in one convenient place. :)

this was much cheaper than getting the titers at a clinic -- especially with the risk that you may need a booster or two when the titers are returned.

My county health department does vaccinations for free to those in my county without health insurance. I paid for my titers out of pocket and got my immunizations for free just before I started school (I got insurance through my school after I started). I took full advantage of the free immunizations since my tax money helps to pay for it.

Are you a currently registered student at a school? If so, do you pay a student health fee? If yes to both, you can most likely get all of it free at school. Another possibility is county health. Good luck.

Have you considered applying for Obamacare? You can get a subsidized insurance plan based on your income, and if you don't make much, the premiums can be very low or nonexistent. I think you can also apply at any time if your income is low enough. All plans cover immunizations. I live on my own, make less than $30k/yr. with 1 dependent and pay $20/month for health insurance that covers dr. visits, immunizations, emergency care, and birth control.

Check you school's health and wellness center. I was able to get my Tdap, PPD, and titers done there for much less than my doctor or CVS.

Check if there's a local AnyLabTest now that can draw and read your titers. CostCo's pharmacy is open to the public (you don't have to be a member), and their vaccinations tend to be the most economical compared to other providers.

It seems you are getting lots of advice and have many options! I just wanted to add that when you volunteer at certain hospitals they give you the vaccines for free. You could always call the hospitals in your area to find out if they do this. Hope this helps!

Thanks for all the help everyone. I do have Insurance but getting a doctor's appointment takes too long and I only have 2 weeks to get these records in. I also have a copay and a deductible. Does anyone know if insurance covers titers?

For the person that suggested Any Lab Test, I did call but they were expensive and far away. I almost used them till I found someone else.

I found a company online called Labreqs.com that had really good prices. I was worried if it was legit or not. (anyone else use them?) I paid them with my paypal account because I knew I could always dispute charges if it was a scam. Paypal is awesome about fighting fraud. Also I didn't want to give my debit card number and credit cards are maxed. :)

I placed the order and got an emailed lab order in about 15 minutes. I did call the people at Labreqs.com to tell them I'm a broke student. They did give me a discount code to use, nurse2016. With the code My Hep b titer & Varicella titer cost only $80. Don't know if it will work for everyone but it did for me and a classmate. We both got 16% off.

With their email, I went to a Labcorp and got blood work done today with no problems. Labreqs said it only take 48 hours for results. We will see.

I hope others aren't in the same boat as me financially and needing blood work.

I'm praying that i can get my MMR records and don't need a TB blood test. If I have to I'll use this company again as long as I get my results. Even if I have to get the other test there is so much less stress, getting everything for about $250 compared $750-850. Now I can go buy a bottle of wine and enjoy my Friday night. :)

In my area, the county health department does immunizations for free for people who don't have insurance.

For my titers, I go to the student health center and have them done there. The Hep B titer is $6.79.

Good luck!
