NCLEX - anyone flunk at 75 questions? Or does it always go for more questions first?

Does anyone know of anyone who had the NCLEX shut off at 75 and they failed??? Or does the program essentially go on and give you more questions if you're close to failing. I realize that if you 100% bomb it you could do the 75 and fail, but does that really happen? I would think that most who fail, do so but are pretty close so the machine kept offering questions.

What % of flunking would make the machine shut off at 75 questions vs. keep going to give someone a better opportunity to pass?

There's a bunch of us in CA wondering this, as CA doesn't participate in the 48 hour "unofficial" results that the NCLEX offers, so you can wait a month or more for results just depending, which is very frustrating....

The number of questions you get has no bearing on whether you pass or fail. You can pass or fail at any number.

YES it really happens...I know too many people who failed at 75. I on the other hand passed at 75! Nearly &*^% my pants when it shut off at 75. But to answer your question. You can absolutely fail at 75 questions just like you can pass at 265.

Really all you have to do is stay above the baseline on the graph for 60 consecutive questions. Don't have to get them all right, just have to stay above the bar. The other 15 questions don't count.

:smiletea2:

Yes, I have heard both pass and fail stories... Bottom line, don't let the number of questions phase you. And once you're done it's time for a drink... either way.

It is quite possible to fail at 75 questions and many people do. It happens when the person testing is doing so poorly that by 75 questions it is obvious that they don't meet the criteria for passing. Seventy five is the minimum set to determine whether or not you are passing.

Yes you definitely can and it doesn't mean that you failed any worse than if there had been more questions.

81 questions here, seemed like I didnt know any of the right answers and just knew I failed it. I just kept thinking how I would break the news of my failure to my family, but alas, I passed!!!!

I had 85 question even though the report said 84. And yes I failed:cry:, but I am not giving up. Hopefully you will do fine.

Well this really stinks... :0(

I just took boards today and got the 75 ?'s that I soooo prayed for, it seems that no one I knew from my graduating class or others ever knew anyone that failed at 75. Im sure it does happen, nothing is impossible. But I have to believe that MOST people that get 75?s PASS.. It just makes sense. If you are doing VERY poor on all your answers then you would fail at any number but if you are doing so-so it seems that they would advance you to the next set of ?s and if you stayed above the baseling with ?s then hopefully you pass at 75.. Im just tryign to stop myself from freaking out.. I have till Thurs am. I thought this was the WORST exam ever. I was a high B student thru out school, Passed Mid Semester HESI and End Semester HESI and took Kaplan Review and I dont think there is any possible way I could have done any better. I just cant wait to Thursday....

Don't believe the hype......there is no way of figuring it out. Before I took the test my friends also told me that if you get 75 questions.....you passed. Not true....took it in Nov. and FAILED with 75 questions. Just took it again yesterday and passed with 75 questions. In PA you can log onto the BON license verification which is posted within 24 hrs of your test. If you passed there will be a license number with your name. Found out this morning. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

The website only verifies licenses in PA. But check out the NJ BON website and they may have a page for license verification. The page enables you to look up anyone with a professional license, so i would see if your state has it.
