  1. Congradulations MandersRN2b, you can go ahead and take off the "2b" now, you did it!! You are an RN now!!!
  2. Please let me know how it looks in Austin, I do plan on going back someday, I have heard that it is still growing by leaps and bounds. Such a beautiful place, cant wait to see it again!
  3. go ahead and start studying for the nclex, practice questions and lots of them! they will help you find your weak areas and what areas you need to focus your studies.
  4. In w.v. you are given a temporary license that is good for ninety days. You can go ahead and go to work before you take the nclex, and if for some reason you arent successful in passing the nclex, most hospitals will allow you to stay on as a nursing assistant (for much less money of course) until you do pass.
  5. New nurse here too. yes it is frustrating at times, but remember that almost every successful person wants to help others suceed as well. This is especially true in nursing. If we didnt care about the success of others, we wouldnt be nurses. ( or perhaps shouldnt be) Thank you to all of the nurses that have helped me by remembering what it was like right out of school. Even though I felt like I knew most of the pointers I have been given, some of them really have helped.
  6. 81 questions here, seemed like I didnt know any of the right answers and just knew I failed it. I just kept thinking how I would break the news of my failure to my family, but alas, I passed!!!!
  7. Most definitely wear a suit and tie!!
  8. Same situation here, I moved from w.v. to n.c. to get a job, some areas are more in need than others. I lived in Austin,Tx. for some time and would love to return there some day, I dont know what the outlook for G.N.s is there but my cousin lives in houston and tells me there are opportunities galore there.
  9. I remember when I was going into the first sem. of nursing school, we had a meet and greet where we all were highly encouraged to bring our spouses and family members to meet all the instructors and other nursing students. After we all ate and mingled , the program administrator spoke to the families of students, she really made it a point to let them know how stressful and time consuming nursing school can be and to try and be understanding if the house doesnt always get cleaned or if playtime with the kids doesnt last quite as long. It really went a long way in my relationship at the time I think because my fiance at the time was able to hear that straight from the horses mouth, so to speak and not just from me.
  10. I have a friend who finally passed on his 5th attempt, I will ask him what he did differently. Dont give up!
  11. my nclex shut off at 81 questions, I felt like I didnt know MOST of the questions that were thrown at me, I just knew I failed, but I remember an instructor that said " first you get some easy ones, and if you get those right, they will get harder and harder. Anyways, to my amazement , I passed!!!!
  12. A base salary of just a little over 20 an hour plus shift differentials here in north carolina. hope this helps
  13. Men leaving the toillet seat up all the time, how rude the women always say. Well , I say, at least you know that they did actually lift it!! Its the guys that dont lift it that infuriate me, how discusting. And , why doesnt it go the other way, getting tired of those ladies leaving the toilet seat down all the time! lol
  14. That first semester is very intimidating for everyone I think, I know it was for me, but by the second semester, I promise you will be much more at ease and comfortable with your patients.
  15. I suppose it can be done, I know people that have, but not for me. I worked full-time for the first year of the program and paid for it with marginal grades, I tried to do it again the following year and ending up failing a class because of it. When I repeated the class, after being readmitted into the program the following year, I had to switch to a part time job and take out a signature loan to get me through the year. I found that even working part time really cut into my study time. Do whatever you can to minimize the time you spend at work, there are only so many study hours in a week and when you devote 40 of those hours to a job, well you do the math.
