What states allow GN's (Graduate Nurses) to work?
In w.v. you are given a temporary license that is good for ninety days. You can go ahead and go to work before you take the nclex, and if for some reason you arent successful in passing the nclex, most hospitals will allow you to stay on as a nursing assistant (for much less money of course) until you do pass.

question
New nurse here too. yes it is frustrating at times, but remember that almost every successful person wants to help others suceed as well. This is especially true in nursing. If we didnt care about the success of others, we wouldnt be nurses. ( or perhaps shouldnt be) Thank you to all of the nurses that have helped me by remembering what it was like right out of school. Even though I felt like I knew most of the pointers I have been given, some of them really have helped.

81 questions here, seemed like I didnt know any of the right answers and just knew I failed it. I just kept thinking how I would break the news of my failure to my family, but alas, I passed!!!!

I lived in Austin,Tx. for some time and would love to return there some day, I dont know what the outlook for G.N.s is there but my cousin lives in houston and tells me there are opportunities galore there.

question to all graduates
I remember when I was going into the first sem. of nursing school, we had a meet and greet where we all were highly encouraged to bring our spouses and family members to meet all the instructors and other nursing students. After we all ate and mingled , the program administrator spoke to the families of students, she really made it a point to let them know how stressful and time consuming nursing school can be and to try and be understanding if the house doesnt always get cleaned or if playtime with the kids doesnt last quite as long. It really went a long way in my relationship at the time I think because my fiance at the time was able to hear that straight from the horses mouth, so to speak and not just from me.

What is it about competition and male nurses?
Men leaving the toillet seat up all the time, how rude the women always say. Well , I say, at least you know that they did actually lift it!! Its the guys that dont lift it that infuriate me, how discusting. And , why doesnt it go the other way, getting tired of those ladies leaving the toilet seat down all the time! lol

Splotchy!
That first semester is very intimidating for everyone I think, I know it was for me, but by the second semester, I promise you will be much more at ease and comfortable with your patients.

Work full time AND go to nursing school?
I suppose it can be done, I know people that have, but not for me. I worked full-time for the first year of the program and paid for it with marginal grades, I tried to do it again the following year and ending up failing a class because of it. When I repeated the class, after being readmitted into the program the following year, I had to switch to a part time job and take out a signature loan to get me through the year. I found that even working part time really cut into my study time. Do whatever you can to minimize the time you spend at work, there are only so many study hours in a week and when you devote 40 of those hours to a job, well you do the math.

NLN Exit Exam
I had to take a similar exam at my nursing school in w.v. It wasnt the NLN, but the ATI which is pretty much the same thing. The material was a compilation of everything I had learned in nursing school and I didnt pass it the first time I took it. That really scared me because this test was designed to be an indicator of how I would do on the NCLEX. Some graduate nurses told me that If I could pass the ATI then I could pretty much expect to pass the nclex. And they were right. I stopped studying for the ATI and started studying for the nclex. I just kept doing as many nclex questions as possible, at least 100 a day, and this really helped to show what areas my weaknesses were in and which material I needed to focus on. A couple weeks later , I took the ATI again and passed it with ease, and then the nclex. I was really scared when the nclex shut off with only 81 questions. I felt like I surely failed the nclex miserably since I felt like I didnt know the answers to many of the questions. But, I guess I really knew more than I thought I did cause I passed. Have faith in yourself, nursing school is tough and if you made it this far, I bet you know more than you think.

The Circumcision Discussion
As a man, I have to say, thank goodness mom had this done as a baby. Makes life so much easier. Got enough worries in life, I sure dont want to have to worry about the increased chance of penile cancer or having to worry about "exra hygiene" measures, or getting it done when I am old enough to remember, ouch!! Cant speak for anyone else, or give advice on the subject, but if your reading, again, "Thanx mom".
