Preceptorship
We just found out last night that our preceptorship is basically going to be another med/surg clinical. We are going to be in groups of 6 with one instructor on a med/surg floor. This means we will not get one-on-one time with a nurse or much experience, since this hospital does not let us do anything with blood. Also, we will not be able to explore the different fields that interests us individually. Do you think this will hinder us when it is time for us to look for jobs? We have heard that most people get their positions through their preceptorships. Also, are we going to miss out on experience, or is the preceptorship not as big of a deal as we have been lead to believe? I would just like to hear some perspective on this from nurses out there. Thank you!

Need A Public Health Nurse's Insight
i am currently in my public health class and we are to do a short interview with a public health/community nurse. i have called a few, but have not heard back from anyone and i was wondering if anyone on here could help me out? it's just three short questions to answer and then i write up a two page paper on your responses. if anyone can help i'd greatly appreciate it!! below are the questions: [color=#333333]to what degree do you provide care to individuals, families or groups? [color=#333333]how do you use data about the public or aggregates to target and plan for care? [color=#333333]what current research findings do you use to strengthen evidence-based practice? again, thank you for any help!!

Need Advice
Thank you for your advice!! I'm glad to know there is options. I have no clinical experience and don't even really know any nurses to go to for advice!, so I appreciate your input. I haven't decided on what kind of nurse I want to be yet, I am leaning toward something with children, or I would like to work in and Eating Disorders rehab. I enjoy working with the elderly as well, so I'm kind of open right now. Thanks again!!

Need Advice
I am currently a nursing student and I am also working full time (I am in an evening and weekend program). I am doing well in school, but I'm having a hard time with the transition. This is a second career for me. I feel like once I graduate, I will be working all of the time and will not have time for the other things in my life. I know that I probably feel that way now, because working full time and going to school, does in fact take up all of my time right now (not working is not an option for me), but I'm scared that after I graduate, I will have to work 12 hour nights and weekends. I am getting "older" and want to start a family, spend time with my husband and visit my parents too. Am I just feeling overwhelmed because it's so much right now, or are there going to be jobs out there to fit my schedule once I graduate? I know it sounds like I'm complaining, but I'm just down about it. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Overwhelmed
I just had my second clinical yesterday, and between working full time and finding the groove with nursing school I am feeling overwhelmed. I know that my fellow students are feeling the same way, but I would like to hear advice from nurses on the "other side". Also, I am having a heard time dealing with the sadness/death. What do you do to cope with it? I have found myself coming home and panicking about death. I was just wondering if this was at all "normal" and if so, how do you deal? Thank you!!

Scared
I am a pre-nursing student, and up until now, I have only felt excitement about my budding nursing career. Recently I started volunteering at a children's convalescent home and love it, however, one patient asked me to scratch her back, and I did, not thinking anything about it, but she had red bumps all over her skin and I am just a volunteer, so I don't know what is exactly wrong with her. Then I started panicking about HIV/AIDS, and how if I'm scared I can contract it by scratching someone's back, how can I ever be a nurse?!?! I mean, realisticly, I don't think the home i work for would put critically ill patients in the hands of inexperienced volunteers, but how am I going to overcome this fear of contracting illnesses, so I can be the great nurse I know I can be? Is nursing maybe not the career for me? or is this a normal fear and with proper education will pass? Please help!

Constantly questioning myself. Is this normal?
I'm feeling the same way too!!! When I think about the future, I want to be a nurse, but then when I'm in class, I have a panic attack thinking about if I can really do this! I don't have any advice on how to make it better, but just wanted to let you know you are not the only one! I was scared I was the only one!! But I'm sure if we hang in there, we can do it!

Am I not cut out to be a nurse? Please Help!
I am a pre nursing student who is very excited about nursing. Yesterday I went to the doctor and had to have some blood drawn. I decided to watch this, being that I am going into nursing. The nurse was having a hard time finding a vein and was moving the needle around in my arm. It was uncomfortable, but not painful. All of a sudden I started to pass out. My mouth got dry and I was wet with sweat, and my hearing started to go. The rushed me over to the table and gave me water. I started to feel better and the doctor drew blood from my hand. My question is, Am I not cut out to be a nurse since I can't even watch them draw my own blood? This has never happened to me before, but I usually don't look. Please help! Thank you!

What is a day in the life of nursing like?
I just signed up for my pre reqs for nursing and I am so excited!!! I have been calling for months trying to get a job shadowing opportunity, but no one will call me back! This is a second career for me, and every one I tell that I want to be a nurse has the exact same reaction, "are you sure that's what you want to do?" I really believe in my heart it is, but just to get a real idea, I thought I'd job shadow. No one will call me back. Why does everyone keep saying this to me. What is a day in the life of a nurse really like? I know its not so simple you can just post it on a message board , but can someone give me some ideas of what it's like to be a nurse really. Thank you so much!!

nursing school AND work full time possible?
I just signed up for my pre reqs for nursing school at a university that offers an RN program during the weekend and evenings. This is a second career for me, so I figured I could work the job I have while completing the RN program. I have talked to a couple people who have told me tales of people they know who went to nursing school and were so overwhelmed with studying that they were unable to work. This isn't really possible for me to do since i'm on my own and this is a second career. Is it possible to complete an RN program and work full time? Has anyone done it? Thanks!
