Does anyone know of anyone who had the NCLEX shut off at 75 and they failed??? Or does the program essentially go on and give you more questions if you're close to failing. I realize that if you 100% bomb it you could do the 75 and fail, but does that really happen? I would think that most who fail, do so but are pretty close so the machine kept offering questions.
What % of flunking would make the machine shut off at 75 questions vs. keep going to give someone a better opportunity to pass?
There's a bunch of us in CA wondering this, as CA doesn't participate in the 48 hour "unofficial" results that the NCLEX offers, so you can wait a month or more for results just depending, which is very frustrating....
I have personally not known anyone to fail after 75 questions. NCLEX states that you can't tell how well you did by how many questions you have gotten. But I know some people who think it's pretty much impossible to get 75 questions and fail. I was really scared when I got 75...but I passed.
Maybe you could take some comfort in the numbers: For the last year that data was compiled (2009), the national NCLEX pass rate was 88%. According to a poll taken on this site, 83% of those in the "75 question" group passed. So, statistically, the chances are good regardless. BTW- this national figure data is from the National Council for State Boards of Nursing. It can be viewed at https://www.ncsbn.org/1237.htm .
Best of luck to all...Mike
