NCLEX - anyone flunk at 75 questions? Or does it always go for more questions first?

Published

Does anyone know of anyone who had the NCLEX shut off at 75 and they failed??? Or does the program essentially go on and give you more questions if you're close to failing. I realize that if you 100% bomb it you could do the 75 and fail, but does that really happen? I would think that most who fail, do so but are pretty close so the machine kept offering questions.

What % of flunking would make the machine shut off at 75 questions vs. keep going to give someone a better opportunity to pass?

There's a bunch of us in CA wondering this, as CA doesn't participate in the 48 hour "unofficial" results that the NCLEX offers, so you can wait a month or more for results just depending, which is very frustrating....

you all make me really nervious. i am an lpn going to do the lpn to rn classes and hearing how you all think you failed but did so well in class really bothers me! i hope you all pass!

i failed at 75. like everyone said its possible.

The minimum number of questions is 75, pass or fail. The computer program can determine a pass or a fail at 75, or 76, etc. It will not at 74, unless you were to walk out of the test, without completing the 75th question.

:yeah: I am so happy and proud to post I :redbeathe PASSED :redbeathe at 75 questions, which makes a total 0f 12 from my nursing class and only one to fail at 265.. I believe your odds at failing at 75 aren't are as poor as when you get into the upper numbers, NOT that it means you fail, it just seems like there is more of a chance.. I can finally breathe after a HORRIBLE 48 hours and a HORRIBLE 3 months of studying, I am DONE!!!!!! Keep the faith and confidence at whatever number you end up the only thing that matters is that you will be a RN!! :nurse:

:ancong!: to Manders. Make sure you change your screen name now!

Congradulations MandersRN2b, you can go ahead and take off the "2b" now, you did it!! You are an RN now!!!

I have personally not known anyone to fail after 75 questions. NCLEX states that you can't tell how well you did by how many questions you have gotten. But I know some people who think it's pretty much impossible to get 75 questions and fail. I was really scared when I got 75...but I passed.

Maybe you could take some comfort in the numbers: For the last year that data was compiled (2009), the national NCLEX pass rate was 88%. According to a poll taken on this site, 83% of those in the "75 question" group passed. So, statistically, the chances are good regardless. BTW- this national figure data is from the National Council for State Boards of Nursing. It can be viewed at https://www.ncsbn.org/1237.htm .

Best of luck to all...Mike
