Help, new rn can't get hired
Thanx for breaking it down, I wasn't sure if the "Nursing Graduate" positions only applied to those nearing graduation and will practice with a temp. permit or those recently graduated within the last 6 months. Wasn't exactly sure what consituted a "New Grad". I did however apply to 2 nursing graduate positions last night and received 2 responses today after posting:D We'll see how it goes.

Help, new rn can't get hired
I graduated in August of 2008 and opted not to get my temp. permit because I was going to wait to get my license after my son was born. I passed the NCLEX in Feb. of 2009 and can't find a job anywhere. No one will hire a new RN with no experience!!!!! I'm not being picky......will take any shift available, but no one is interested..........must have atleast 1 year experience. I've applied everywhere and have heard nothing. However, I am seeing many openings for new grads. Should I apply to these positions although technically I'm an RN and not a brand new grad? I need the experience. Any help would be appreciated. Thanx in advanced.

75 Questions on NCLEX, pass or fail?
Took the NCLEX in Nov. 2008 after my son was born. FAILED with 75 questions. I was devestated, but got over it quickly. Just took the test on the 23 of Feb. and PASSED with 75 questions. So.......with 75 questions it can definitely go both ways. I am so relieved that it is behind me. GOOD LUCK to those who are taking it in the future:D

Hiring Freeze and New Grad
Thanx for your encouragement........I guess what I'm trying to express is that when in nursing school everyone tells you that nursing is the field to be in......you can always find a job in healthcare. You then go through school thinking that the gaits will open once you graduate....and you'll have your pick.....however that is so not the case these days. It just get frustrating at times.....then I remember why I chose this field in the first place......to help others.......so you just have to roll with the punches and keep on searching.

Hiring Freeze and New Grad
I live just outside Philadelphia and all of the hospitals are on a hiring freeze. Graduated in Sept, 08 and more than half of my class are still looking for jobs. Those who have found something were forced to take a position in LTC or per diem. I think I will have to work my way either North or West to even find a position open (Lehigh, Reading). All I wanna do is work.....ahhhhhhhhh.........This economy stinks..............

NCLEX - anyone flunk at 75 questions? Or does it always go for more questions first?
Does the work for NJ as well? And what is the website? The website only verifies licenses in PA. But check out the NJ BON website and they may have a page for license verification. The page enables you to look up anyone with a professional license, so i would see if your state has it.

NCLEX - anyone flunk at 75 questions? Or does it always go for more questions first?
Don't believe the hype......there is no way of figuring it out. Before I took the test my friends also told me that if you get 75 questions.....you passed. Not true....took it in Nov. and FAILED with 75 questions. Just took it again yesterday and passed with 75 questions. In PA you can log onto the BON license verification which is posted within 24 hrs of your test. If you passed there will be a license number with your name. Found out this morning. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Do anyone have tips on finding time to study for he NCLEX
I am a mother of 2 and can absolutely understand the time restraints.....graduated in August, 2008 8 months pregnant with my 2nd son and worked full time. Had my son and could find no time to study..........couldn't even open my eyes let alone study with a newborn. Took the Nclex in Nov. and failed with 75 questions.......yeah.......75 questions....devastated. I was then determined to make time to study even if it killed me. Instead of taking naps when he napped.....I did as many questions on the disc included with the study books........I found that taking the tests on the computer was so much faster than paging through the books. You can also use the studying tool included with in the CDs. It may sound simple......but I would take every minute that I could get. Then when my son started sleeping through the night......I would force myself to stay up atleast an hour after he went to bed. Within that hour i could get in about 4 or 5 10-question quizzes. Also trying to find a babysitter for an hour or 2 truly helps.........I know its hard but hang in there. Retook the NCLEX in February 2009 and passed with 75 questions!!!!!!! All the sacrafice truly pays off in the end.

MC3 students
Congrats to all who have made it in the nursing program at MCCC!!!! It has indeed been a long road...... I am starting my 2nd clinicle semester and hope to graduate in Dec. 07. For those who are just starting, don't let the work overwhelm you. Take it one step at a time and do not procrastinate because it will show in your work and grades!!! (I learned the hard way after my first test ) One more thing, I have found that reading the chapters assigned actually help:idea: , some classmates of mine thought they could just skip the reading and depend strictly on the lectures (unfortunately they are not moving onto the the next sem.) For those who have surpassed the second sem., how is it compared to the first? I have heard that it is definitely more of a challenge because lectures do not necessarily coincide with your clinicle experience. But, I am looking forward to peds. rather than working with the elderly. Also, is there a term paper like the first. Any advice would be appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks

New grad relocating
Any help would be appreciated! I am currently a nursing student and graduating this spring with my ADN. My husband and I live in the Philly area and are looking to relocate to an area just outside of Baltimore. Not that Philly is not great, but we are looking for a change in atmosphere. Would anyone be able to direct us as where to start looking for a house? We have been down twice this past month and are starting to narrow down our choices. We love the city, but since we plan on having a family we would prefer an area with more open space. We have scoped out the Bel Air/Abingdon area and houses are reasonably affordable for a 3/4 bedroom. Just wondering if the area in question was safe and diverse. Or any other suggestions would be great!!! Also, I have heard so much about JH, how often do they hire new grads? Do they only hire nurses w/ BSNs? or would anyone recomend any hospitals worth applying at in the general area? Any help would be great, as the months are starting to wind down. Thanks!!!!!!!
