Hi all and welcome back! We've been in for a few weeks now but I haven't had a chance to pop in and say hello. Hope you are all having a wonderful start!

I'm currently doing some research re: stocking Narcan in our school district. What are your thoughts? Do your schools stock it? I work in a small, southern Ohio school and honestly I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'm not looking for a debate, just hoping to get any info you might be able to share, especially if your school stocks it.

We do not stock it, but I am not opposed.

We have not previously, but my state just passed a law to allow it. So I will be attending a webinar soon and then applying for some free doses.

We do not. I'm also not opposed.

We do... Never used it, but glad to have it just in case

We did in MD - my county stocked it at ALL schools.

We don't here in my district in TX. Don't know about other districts in the area/state.

I'm not opposed, in fact, I think it's a fantastic idea!

EMS carries it on the ambulances here. They've got a pretty fast response, so we don't carry it in the clinic. An narcotic od is a 911 call anyhow (and you better get them somewhere else because NARCAN is shorter-lived (60 mins or so) than most of the things you'd administer it for. There's other patient support needed as well.

NARCAN doesn't eliminate the opioid, it just preferentially bonds to the receptors that the drug does.

Our high school stocks it, we do not have in middle schools

The fire station 2 blocks away from me carries it and they are the first to hit when I call 911. My office is in the basement and kinda of secluded. I don't have the team right now to provide the backup I need when giving Narcan. When I have that, I'll consider carrying it. The public HS schools in my area do.

Thing is, I would likely use it, BUT on a parent/guardian or bystander (huge opioid issue in my area) before I would on student.

We have it at our high school and middle school, but plan to get it into all buildings when it's time to renew the rx. The thinking behind getting it into K-5 buildings is for adult visitors/parents.

Is there a narcan source "out there" similar to EpiPens?

Side note, I just got my EpiPen Jrs that I ordered in early March ?

NARCAN (at least the ones I've seen) come in preload syringes like our diabetic glucagon or like epi used to before the epipens came along.
