I don't want to hijack the other thread but I wanted to update on my daughter's broken arm. We saw Ortho yesterday and she is having surgery tomorrow. They were not able to completely reduce it in the ER, it's still completely displaced. I'll TRY to add pix... I'm bad at it, apparently.
Please cross your fingers for a smooth surgery and uneventful recovery!!
Before reduction- That bone should not be pointing at her ribs

Thanks all! The Ortho said we could let it heal without surgery and new bone will form to connect the two pieces, but she is 11 and I want optimal healing to she can use her arm normally for the rest of her life.
This is a wise choice. I've seen these go without surgery as well as clavicles that are floating around like that and some of them end up looking like KRAP; some even have to be redone after they "heal" if that's what you call it.
*CRINGE*. I must say though don't be surprised if she has a lot of pain immediately post-op. Some of that can come from muscle spasms, because for a while now the muscle and bone has been out of alignment. When it gets back to normal, it's not unusual to have spasms.[/quote']They said they'll prob keep her overnight the first night for pain control. They prescribed her norco 10/325 and said she could have half or one tab (she's only 80lbs!)

I have to add my own "ouch" to that X-ray photo.
Hope all goes well.
