I always have my laptop open to a You Tube channel of some sort. This morning I was listening to the Hamilton Soundtrack, now I am listening to the Best of John Williams. I feel like the kids enjoy the music. Last Friday I had a pretty anxious kiddo in my office and I put on relaxing "spa music" and he fell asleep :)
Usually, in the elementary school, I get piped in music that the secretaries play. Usually it's soft rock/pop (lots of 80s and 90s and I like it except for one particular artist that I think is way overrated and way overplayed) Sometimes, they play top 40 or country instead. If they aren't playing anything, I usually play 50's or showtunes through Pandora or iheart
At the high school, my laptop music is quieter and only heard at the desk area unless I'm filing a bit further away. I often play an alternative station or a similar artist station (Imagine Dragons, 21 Pilots, etc) Sometimes I go for showtunes or 60's music.
I love the shocked look some kids get though. One day, a Panic! at the disco song was playing and a teenager was signing in and stopped to say "You listen to Panic????" Yes dear. I'm not dead yet. He probably quickly deleted it from his playlist, hahaha.
You all teach me something each day I visit this forum.
Not to get political I did not know Christian music is allowed in the school system. It is refreshing and nuff said about it. It is for your listening, not the kiddos.
I just had an image of a sterile office that is bare bones in the school system. Who knew you kept a variety of items in your area, who knew kids could fall asleep, who knew teachers are kind of like parents when it comes to the kiddos, and lastly who knew you all make such a huge difference in children's lives. Kuddos to you it is all I can do to teach Sunday school twice monthly, I admire anyone who can deal with children on a daily basis.
This thread makes me think of something my dad did. He was a junior high math teacher for 20 years. He had read about classical music while studying leading to higher retention or something along those lines so he started playing classical music in the background of his class. One day he was telling me about it and said "In all the evaluations I've had over the years, NOT ONE administrator ever commented on my music. I wish they would have and given me some extra points or something" :haha:
