During the 1982 Tylenol poisonings, I worked in a NICU in Chicago (Chicago Tylenol murders - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). One of my co-workers, a resident pediatrician, dressed up as an Extra Strength Tylenol capsule- complete with lot number.

Yes, he got reprimanded. Yes, we secretly voted his costume 'Most Original'.

Not-so-Fun Fact: This crime was the genesis of all the nurse-proof layers of packaging we now find ourselves saddled with.

While this was not at work, the most unforgettable costume I've seen was a man dressed as a used tampon. White foam, red spray paint, and a string.

We lived in Mt. Prospect at the time- and the (?) Walgreens where one of the bottles was sold was right down the street.

If you recall- shortly thereafter was the salmonella in the Jewel milk outbreak- ground zero was the Jewel I bought groceries at every week.

At my LTC, a therapist came in dressed as a biker chick/momma. Replete with the miniskirt, thigh-hi boots, leathers, chains, wild frizzed hair under a cap, sunglass shades. Looked like the character Rose's dream alter-ego (from the comic strip "A Rose is a Rose").

Everybody did a dead-stop as she walked by. Best costume I ever saw carried off.

Specializes in LTC, assisted living, med-surg, psych.

My most unforgettable costume was my own Pirate Gwyn The Avenger costume, whose skirt was too big for me and fell off as I was pushing my med cart down the hall, giving the residents a great view of my tush. Never again!

a former co-worker of mine came dressed as a shower - pipe strapped to her back with a shower curtain hung around it - complete with rubber ducky and shower cap!

In the 70s in our communuty hospital a male nurse wore a uniform dress, white stockings, and cap. He had a wig that matched his beard and makeup.

I had a male patient who didn't want a woman inserting a Foley catheter. He was sent from the other floor.

Then the supervisor sent a man from ICU dressed as a cowboy.

LOL last night this patient was on CBI and I needed to irrigate the bladder because it wasn't draining. The blood clot in the foley so when I pushed the irrigation syringe the CBI tubing popped off and covered me in hematuria.

Note to self always wear a plastic gown when irrigating
