More attractive grads have better chances of getting hired?

Published

online there's this study that claims more attractive/pretty people are more likely to get hired for jobs and are generally more well liked and treated better. does anyone believe this is true? anybody works in the hr department know of any sitautions where nurses got hired because they were pretty/had a symmetrical face?

I wonder if they make low cut scrubs that show off 'the girls'....hmmmm...THEN maybe I would have had an easier time getting a job!! :)

Stephie, your problem is that you are too hot. A person can be so hot that once they leave an interview, staff/management well, everybody is stunned to the point of PTSD. Just unable to remember what the hell happened during the interview. I have been known to have that affect on people. It's a very difficult thing to overcome. You can call them to remind them of your interview, and they just need ativan again. So sad, so sad.

Well, it never hurts to be pretty/handsome - in any walk of life. Unless the hiring person is the jealous type.

We should always be pleasant and nice - unless you're interviewing for something that requires toughness and being crude.

I guess life just isn't often black and white. Lots of gray.

I believe that's true.

Its so funny that you said that because I came across an ad for a job posting that litterally asked for the most recent picture of the applicant lol

Even better, not long ago a nursing program in my area REQUIRED a photo of the nursing school applicant ! What really cracked me up was the "Race" section. It stated it was not required that you check any of the boxes..great, someone decides to not check any box..but the PICTURE would be a dead giveaway :uhoh3:!

The school no longer has the photo of the applicant as a requirement for the things needed to send in for consideration.

No one understands the problem us beautiful people have. No one understands the woe. The torment. The beauty.

Being beautiful is hard. :lol2:

I didn't need a study to tell me that attractive people have an easier path.

Experiment

1. Dress up looking like a bum and go to a resturant or somewhere and see what reception you get.

2. Dress up classy and go back to that same place and see what reception you get.

Please let us have the feedback.

Now that I think about it, I think on my unit alone I work with mostly attractive people! Not like model attractive but your everyday good looking person.

Most people are not as ugly as they think they are and some people are not as beautiful as they think they are

A beautiful soul can shine through regardless of the outer dressing

My son is engaged to a "smoking hot" librarian, who has a beautiful, shining soul

There is always some study going about about this subject. Once upon a time, "they" claimed tall people got the jobs. Now I keep reading where your name gets you an interview. The DON at my previous job told me that a male nurse will get a job over a female nurse. Some organizations have to hire a certain percentage of females, minorities, etc. As for nursing jobs, I really don't think that your looks has much to do with it. As I look around me while at work, I certainly don't see any supermodels!

I think this is definitely true to some degree...but more than beauty, I think it's a bit of how people present their selves over all...If you look clean, put together, like you respect yourself, and confident, it often comes across as attractive. Like if you look at movies with the standard "nerdy girl becomes gorgeous with a wardrobe change and taking off her glasses," what really changes is her outward presentation of self and self-image. She was the same person to begin with, but the care put into appearance can sometimes make world of difference with first impressions. I am NOT a person who blow-dries her hair and I hardly ever wear makeup and ironing is a dirty word in our house...but when I have an interview, you bet I'm blown out, eyelashes curled and wearing freshly pressed clothes.

On a related note...if I could JUST get an interview to make myself pretty for in the first place, it'd be a good start...:lol2:
