More attractive grads have better chances of getting hired?

Published

online there's this study that claims more attractive/pretty people are more likely to get hired for jobs and are generally more well liked and treated better. does anyone believe this is true? anybody works in the hr department know of any sitautions where nurses got hired because they were pretty/had a symmetrical face?

I'm not a nurse yet but if this is true its a bit offensive. I recently found out in my old job (i left because of nursing school) my boss only hired me because of my looks which i took it to offense because I'm smart. I have a BA in sociology & social sciences with a cert. in women studies. So wether a person is attractive or not which whos to judge anyway, it should not matter!

This isn't new...but an established fact.

I have a cousin that was recruited by TWO internationally known modeling agencies and turned them both down because she had no interest in modeling. She is THAT pretty.

However, she has bare minimum education and got a job straight out of college, with zero work experience, working as a buyer assistant at freaking ARMANI in NYC making a good salary, even by NYC standards.

Three years later she left Armani to work for another major label and now makes over 6 figures.

So yeah, looks matter when it comes to getting a job.

I still think it depends on the job- she didn't want modeling, but the fashion industry still got her- and their entire image is dependent on how good they look- from the clothing to the guy who gets the coffee for the office....

I've worked with plenty of butt-ugly people, and they were employed for a long time because they were GOOD :D

If I'm hiring , I want someone with skills, not boobs, legs, butts, teeth, eyes, or anything else that could be on a make-up ad :D

First of all places have to hire... and interview this topic is a waste of time.

With medicare reimbursement cuts 11.1%!!!!!! For SNFs, this sounds like 1994 all over again.. If your in nursing school get your BSN maybe in 4 years more jobs will be available. We are screwed simply put.

It's only a matter of time before something effects the agency any nurse works for.

I thank god everyday for my FT job. I love nursing... I do not know what else I would do. But one day at a time and Worry about it if it happens. As we say in addiction nursing.

But to be honest, i would not be surprised if someone actually studied that!!! :smackingf

I can kind of see this happening for a plastic surgeons office but not anywhere else.

Funny enough when I was 13 and had braces my orthodontist had an entire staff of twenty something skinny women with giant boobs. What was even more of a joke was his brother was a gynecologist. I never saw the type of people he hired, though I can only wonder.

But to be honest, i would not be surprised if someone actually studied that!!! :smackingf

Yeah- evidently there is some govt funding going to research treadmills for SHRIMP.... as in bottom feeding crustaceans.... like THAT is necessary :D

Don't believe the self-deprecating tone---I've met Vida, and she is very cute! I would have hired her myself if I'd had work for her to do, but that's because she presents herself as competent, enthusiastic, and eager.....not because she's visually appealing. :D

You are so sweet, I am not sure how I feel about the word Cute. Sometimes I think it's a nice word to call unattractive people. lol Not that you meant it that way at all but you should say hot and sexy :p J/K I had a great time chatting with you. I wish I would have had more time!!! (although I did lose 10 mins getting lost but that's the norm for me!)

Yeah I would agree with this statement!

How could people not want some of this? I am thinking of changing my hair though or ditching the glasses because I wouldn't be able to land a date to save my life and the only person that has flirted with me in 3 years was on parole. True story! snl-pat.jpg

And it was serious?

Yes she was!

I didn't need a study to tell me that attractive people have an easier path.

I wouldn't use easier. There is a price that comes with people being attractive. It might have it's own perks I would think but it has it's cons too. I have a friend that is really pretty and I feel really bad for some of the constant harassment she has to go through.

Now that I think about it, I think on my unit alone I work with mostly attractive people! Not like model attractive but your everyday good looking person.

Ugh I felt like I was maybe a 6 out of 10 where I used to live. I move to CO and live in a big college town where it seems like to live here you have to be skinny and gorgeous. Talk about a hit to the ego. Now I am lucky to feel like a 4 when I go out in public. Don't get me started on my favorite restaurant. I won't stop going there but my goodness. There is not ONE unattractive person that works there. I feel like I am in a Las Vegas strip club with all the hot people that work there.

what does a person who is not attractive do to get ahead?? if people are hiring attractive people then how do you get a job if you are not attractive to most standards?

You could always try to sleep with someone. :| KIDDING!

Maybe if you're a guy. I don't think the woman on the show are all that hot. The men are.

I dunno dear. All the nurses on my unit are really ugly if if makes you feel better.

Actually, they aren't. But they are good nurses regardless of their looks.
