MOMS: how many credit hours do you take?

Published

I was just wondering how many credit hours other moms are taking. I am getting ready to start my pre- nursing courses at Ivy Tech this fall. It will be my first time in college. I am a stay at home mom of three boys ages 4, 4 & 2. (The oldest two go to pre-school and are gone about four hours 4x a week.) I signed up for online courses this fall for English, psychology, sociology and ivyt (every new student is has to take it, basically it teaches you how to study etc.) It is only a one credit hour class for the first 8 weeks of the semester, the rest of my classes are three credit hours. I was thinking of adding intro to interpersonal communication which would only put me at 13 credit hours. Psychology and English are the only points classes this semester. I feel like I can do it but was just wondering what others take. I know the college load one can handle vary person to person but I am just curious. I never did well in high school due to at home problems, however I am extremely serious about nursing. I also have been a cna for three and a half year now. Thanks for anyone who replies, I am new to this forum. (:

Do Dads that have custody count? Or is this sex specific?

I'm at 100 hours, and switching to nursing. I take an avg 18 hours/semester, 19 this coming Fall to finish up pre-reqs. My low point was 14, but I had organic chemistry with the double lab, and 2 other labs the same week. Labs stink.

I have a friend that works 40 hours/week at the VA and takes 12 hours of pre-reqs a semester, finishing them this Fall. She has 3 children.

I take anywhere from 12-18, or 4-6 classes.

It is less frustrating to be underwhelmed than overwhelmed.

I have a 1 year old and started school this summer. I'm taking 2 courses for 6 credits... one's a pre-req and one isn't.

It's a handful but doable!! I have an 18 month old and he's an only child! I'm a single parent at that! I already have a bachelors degree but am working on lpn at a community college. I took 6 credits last semester, 7 credits this summer and 8 credits next fall. Ease your way in!! You don't want to rush and end up with lower grades and have to retake classes!! That would REALLY be a waste of time!! YOU GOT THIS!! Good luck!!

Hello!! I am mother of 3 (13,7, and 6), wife, and work fulltime. I am currently enrolled in 2 classes (6 credits) 1 online and 1 on campus. I know it will be a challenge but you put your mind to something and you will accomplish your goals. At times I do doubt myself but I(we) got this!!! Good Luck :)

I think it really just depends on you. My last post was pretty non expressive. I have an almost two year old, almost four year old, and am expecting my third in December. Generally, I've averaged around 12-18 credits. 18 is definitely a handful, and I would only do that if I had to. However, I do 12 constantly mostly due to losing financial aid if I don't. The only thing I would say be cautious of is taking two sciences together. I took microbiology and ap 1 together - that was HORRIBLE. I got out with a B+ in ap1 and a B in micro.

It's stressful, and I won't lie - I use the tv babysitter a lot to study. But I know that in the end it will be worth it. :)

I started out with taking 10 credit hours. This summer I am taking 7. This fall I am taking 17. I have a 6 and 8 year old, so they are both in school during the day (other then summer of course) so that helps! If I had one at home I would probably limit it to 2-3 classes though!

I took 12 each semester for my prereq and coreq semesters which leaves me taking 11, 8, 9, & 13 for each of my program semesters.

I have a 18,15,9 year old and working a full time job. And I'm taking 2 classes and probably a online course if I think I can pull it off. I don't want to over do it.

Full time RN student with 2 kids (ages 1 & 2)

It's possible! :)

I have an 18 month old and I'm due in 3 weeks. I have to take at least 12 semester hrs to get my vet benefits so I'll be a "full-time student" come spring :o I can't speak from experience because I haven't done this before, but I'm really determined. GL to you
