Major setback :-(
I am working 36 hours a week in the ER! I have a one year old child. I maxed out on government loans because I used most of that $ when I got my BS Sociology. I'm going to take a&p 2 and get on the payment plan! when I wrote this I was fuming mad but when I calmed Down I decided no stinkin loan was going to take me off my mission!!!:nurse:QUOTE=are_you_a_llama;8023157]What about government loans? If you are serious about your studies, you'll get into your program no matter what. And when you do, you should be able to pay it all back. Part time jobs could be an option too.. Waiting tables, cashier, anything can help.

Major setback :-(
No I am meeting with financial aid counselor tomorrow to see what my options are... If all else fails I am at least trying to take A&P2 since I'm finishing A&p1 now. Being on a payment plan was not in the budget... I'm not sure if I can even afford it since I'm still paying out of state tuition rates!! thanks for that suggestion! I will def check into that process too!!

Major setback :-(
So apparently I have maxed out my financial aid (hit the cap due to me using FA for my previous BS degree). I was informed Today and was told that that my tuition has to be paid in full by Wednesday or my classes for the fall will be dropped!! All I can do is shake my head. so now my only option is to sit out a semester until I can save enough money to pay for spring semester. I am so upset!! I just started making friends and we are all taking classes together next semester Hopefully I can get enough money to at least pay for A&P2! Pray for me guys!!

Should I get ADN or LPN? Already have BS degree
Lol funny you picked up on my schools!! Yes! FMU and I already spoke. Their director of nursing is awesome and SO helpful! They do have a 2nd degree bsn program. Too bad I can't say the same about the admissions office. FMU is 1hr 45 minutes with no traffic on these desolate back roads... I drive my grandmother to Florence for dr appts so I know the drive well. MUSC accelerated program is also about 2 hrs... Right now I'm at HGTC ;-). Been here since January. I just decided to do lpn first last month.I like the campus and the people. They said after you finish RN they have some type of pact with CCU. It just seems far away from my child which makes me nervous. Also spending approx 4 hrs a day in the car?? I did that living in Baltimore commuting to work and it's exhausting!i will think about it being you make a valid point. Thanks for the support and good luck with your program!

Should I get ADN or LPN? Already have BS degree
I am looking for opinions... I am at a crossroads. I'm 36 and just started prereqs in January at the local tech college. I already have a BS in Sociology that I got 14 years ago. I had to take over quite a few classes since my math, statistics, and sciences were obviously outdated. My concern is time. I have an 18 month old and work part time in an ER. The closest second degree traditional BSN program is almost 2 hours away. The only accelerated BSN program is also 2 hours away. I'm in rural SC near Myrtle beach. Long story short, my pre req gpa is a 3.0. People going for RN have 3.0 and up. Entry into the program is done on a point system. I automatically lost a point because I'm not a county resident. My advisor told me to do the lpn program first then do bridge and then to bsn at a closer school that offers RN-BSN. ( first time I have seen a university the only offers RN-bsn and no traditional bsn) Being that the school only does fall admissions I already won't finish lpn program til spring 2016. If I do ADN it will most likely be December 2017 before I finish...either way I am still working on other classes needed for ADN so when I'm finished lpn I can go straight into bridge program. What do you think? Do you think it's feasible to do the bsn program with commute time, part time job and 18 month old? I'm a little aggravated that bsn programs are so far and between in this state...

MOMS: how many credit hours do you take?
It's a handful but doable!! I have an 18 month old and he's an only child! I'm a single parent at that! I already have a bachelors degree but am working on lpn at a community college. I took 6 credits last semester, 7 credits this summer and 8 credits next fall. Ease your way in!! You don't want to rush and end up with lower grades and have to retake classes!! That would REALLY be a waste of time!! YOU GOT THIS!! Good luck!!

post your fall class schedule
A&p 2 Health calculations English 2(they didn't take this transfer credit ) Plus I'm working as a scribe in the ER...2-3 12 hour shifts a week

Re-taking credits
If you feel overwhelmed, retake a few classes to get up your gpa and enroll in lpn program. My school actually has open spots most semesters for lpn because EVERYONE is fighting to get into RN program!! So if you complete the lpn program, you can do a bridge program (Lpn-RN) where the competition (# of applicants) is much lower and may work out better for you. That's at my community college. Each school is different! If you want it, GO GET IT!!! Good luck!

Biology & Anatomy/Physiology
Absolutely use youtube videos!! Dr Fords class on youtube is a life saver! I'm using those videos now to help me. My second lab practical is next Monday! I'm taking a&p 1 now. Also dr Fabian on youtube is good too. I also use a website called Quizlet. I have the app on my phone. They have flash cards and quizzes that I can do anytime... I took biology in college in 1996 and I have a B in A&p right now so you should be fine!!

Why did you choose nursing?
I thought about nursing back in 97 when my brother (who was 15 yrs old) was diagnosed with leukemia. I was in college at the time working toward a degree in sociology. I thought the nurses were AWESOME!!! He was at a children's hospital for quite a while. Long story short, I graduated with that sociology degree and worked in human services. I always felt unfulfilled and not working up to my full potential. So now, 17 years later I finally mustered up the energy and guts to start nursing school. It's my second semester. Even though I'm stressed and have no life, I'm happy with my decision!

LPN'S are not going anywhere!
Duskyjewel- we are in the same boat!! I decided to change careers (from social work). So I am doing a community college program as I am working on other requirements for ADN. That way I can complete the bridge program for ADN. But by time I finish my lpn I will be 38!!!! I started taking classes last January. It's tough but hang in there! Good luck!!

LPN'S are not going anywhere!
I agree!! That's my plan as well!! Start as lpn (since I have bills and a child), do lpn-RN bridge program then on to the bsn!

Lab practical...any tips??
Yeah the Wiley Plus code came with our books but our instructor never registered our class on the site. I heard from another student who has a different instructor that their teacher uses wiley plus online and they said it was SUPER helpful....Urrgggghhhh.... And my teacher just moved lab practical 2 from july 30 to July 21!!!
