Mocked by teacher in post conference.

Nursing Students General Students

I recently had my teacher mock me in front of the whole class like a bully in a park, "literally" making funny faces and noises like you are watching a movie about bullying. I will report this the the School president and file a complaint about this teacher.....am I being pitiful or is this really unprofessional behavior that should not be accepted? I torn if I should just accept it or stand up. Well, actually I will complaint regardless, but I do wonder. Humm? Please give your opinion.

Hummmm, I propably did me a favor. Nurses are snakes in white, demons full of bitterness just picking up a paycheck.

Not all of us wear white. Not all of us are demons. Not all of us are full of bitterness. And as nurses, we work hard for the money, so we do not just "pick up our paychecks," although I wish circumstances made things more simplified than that.

Allnurses.com's terms or service expressly prohibits name-calling and villification, so I'm assured we can find a better way to express ourselves without inciting negative emotions via calling people 'snakes' or 'demons.' Thank you.

Not only that, but it puts the original post/argument into focus. I'm out...

OP, I understand you are angry, but there are plenty of examples of excellent nurses and excellent nursing instructors that such a generalization is wholly unfounded. Your statement leads me to believe that you may be more responsible for your negative experiences than you are aware of or willing to admit to.

Originally I kind of understood where you were coming from, and although quitting school completely seemed a little rash I respected the fact that you were not willing to tolerate disrespectful, obnoxious behavior from instructors. But you just lost me with this one.....

Absolutely agreed! It seems this a very common theme in OPs life...

A warning voice spoke to me (figuratively of course ;)) when the OP related this experience to the experience of suing a previous employer. Maybe the employer was wrong in that situation, but I'm starting to think there is a pattern of the OP viewing him/herself as a victim.

Pick your battles carefully and tread with caution. I have known of more than one vindictive instructor who failed students who had reported them.

If you report without your ducks in a row, prepare for some retaliatory action.

I highly second this quote to "pick your battles" in Nursing school and just suck it up...something similar happened to me in clinicals as well in front of all my classmates. But OP, I see you made your decision. I dealt with it in my own way and graduated with my BSN and actually got to know the instructor better. I hope others learn from this post. Who knows if the Dean and the instructor shares cocktails on Friday nights...
